Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

Your'e ready for the next step! My computer was running slow because of updates so i downloaded windows one care and its fixing it. I have the 4 shared account and now can upload video. Your videos are cool and i'm anxious to se our collab. Keep Building!....

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

The pepping pivot point? Not sure what you mean Zabana.
Please explain :)

Yeah, Matt.
People were pm'ing me on youtube.
These were new people interested in how we build.
I just made some quick videos explaining the basics the best I could.

It was tough to keep explaining the same thing over and over in PM.
So making videos was a better idea.

The glassing video will technically be part - 5 :)

I mean the pivot point between shin and thigh

;)

That calf came out great and its a double bonus you can still get your leg out of it still. way to go ...

ah I see what you mean now. I'll have to add that later as a separate piece for displaying . If I wear the suit, it would have to be made out of something softer. That would easily break off over time or rub/scratch paint or even hinder movement.

yeah, I was surprised man :)

aside from that, Zabana made a great file to work with.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

not really an update. Still waiting for better climate to get outside and start sanding but I was bored tonight.

So I started to make a Mark III out of foam.

I'll probably finish this and wear it for halloween or something.

It's not the greatest foam.
Usual camping mat stuff I found at Canadian Tire or walmart etc.
It has a flat texture on it so I figured it would do for now.

I made those notches in the arc opening too high...bah, ah well.
I'll rebuild it down the road with better foam. Just wanted to try it out :)

Anyways, It's actually really easy. I recommend this method to anyone who wants a quick cosplay costume to have fun

I don't know if there any tutorials for this on YouTube, but I'll make one if anyone is interested.

Tutorial would be great Stealth. I was thinking about making some foam parts as a stand in while I finish pep parts.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

i'd be interested.. might be a more flexible way to do the neck and abs for more movement

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

Eva is alot easier the cardboard. And with a few tricks as you learn how to build with it, you can have a cool product. I know it was fun putting this together. Looks Good! Keep Building!....

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

I'll get right on that tutorial after I finish the torso

I'll finish it to completion so you can get a good idea what it looks like completed after all the steps.

Youtube allows more video time. I can explain it all in 1 video instead of 2-3

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

Looks great stealth. Foam is both easier and time consuming. Well when I do it. I am sooo damn anal retentive and exact with every cut that I spend most time planning out each move before i do it. Yours look awesome! P.S. Check your PMS

Stealth, I'm enjoying following your post here and utube.
Thanks

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

here's a really rushed test of building the chest and painting. Came out pretty well. I added some scuffs on the edges as I like that look for armor.

GJ helped me find some new better foam like the one he's using. The foam i'm using is too flimsy. So, I'll take my time and build it neatly next time around.

I also got some sanding done on my actual project (Chest and Faceplate). I'll get some more done tomorrow and put up some pics

Don't worry I haven't gone totally Foam crazy. ;)

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

Looks great. However I'm still worried the foam I use might be flimsier than you are expecting. Id hate to get your hopes up. However my build shows what it can do.

I think it might be better man, this foam is awful.
Even when cutting it with a sharp knife, it doesn't leave clean edges like yours.

Yours is really clean and sharp.

On a site note, Plasti-Dip rocks. :)

woah. are you turning to foam medium as well sir stealth? :)

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

Just wanted to try my hand at it. This will be good for soft parts of the armor that need to flex and to fill gaps. Similar to what Blackdynamo1 is using it for.

Weather is awful today again so I built the back and neck this morning just for the hell of it, even though the foam sucks. Might as well finish the roll.

Damn rainy days :(

Yeaaaaah Boyeeee! thats coming out good! Hey, Stef here's a tip for the foam your'e using so don't scrap it after your'e done. Shhhh, you can always glue a poly or nylon fabric inside to hold it together and for extra strength. I had to work a double thats why I haven't got to upload vids. I will get on it tonite for sure. Keep Building!....

great idea!!

for now I used cardboard in some areas on the inside to keep it's shape.

man, you're smart :thumbsup

looking forward to the vids as well :)

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

Hey Stef. Yeah the foam I shot you the link to cuts clean and sharp. Please note I have one of those handheld mat cutters.. you'll need one of those. It allows you to cut 45 degree angles... so you can combine to 45's to get a hard 90 or a 45 and 90 to get a 45... etc... it also allows for those 45 and 90s to be inverted like valley folds... get a tool like in the link below. Also if you plan the shapes out enough or use pep as a base you won't need any cardboard to help keep shape, etc. I don't use any other materials in my build. Hope this helps Stef. Great work as always.

Re: IRON MAN - Mark III Armor Build - (Update - April. 19. 2011)

Stealth & GJ:

Since this is becoming a hybrid build, how about sharing the link to the foam as well? Or is it just the closed-cell (cheapie) camping mats from Wal-Mart?
