Boy, you try to save.....100 bucks and look what it gets you :)

It's amazing, you even see rust taking over inside the grip! I've never seen a rattail tang cut that way, man this thing is cheap. Cost me $20 online, refused to pay Factory FX price as it is of the same quality. I'm considering gluing the grip together and making a mold for dense foam stunt grips. I saw a screen used stunt sword with foam handle and aluminum blade, weighed NOTHING; no wonder it moved so fast.

id suggest useing resin if you are going to recast it......... might be a kool idea....

the factory x one has to be SOLID metal because it weighs a ton, but i think its better quality than that

I'll bet you could JB weld the blade in the front of the hilt, making sure it's sealed...then the main grip. Then fill it full of resin and finally JBWeld the pommel and stick the rod in while its liquid...the thing would set up solid.

Good enough for a display piece, I wouldn't fight with the thing or wave it around too much though.

I'm not sure how the Factory-X version is made, but it feels very solid (I own one). That one actually looks hollow, the FX hilt is definitely solid. I'm not sure how FX made their tang, though.

I wish there was some way to know the little details about swords before you buy them, like how they're made. I'm about to drop a few hundred bucks on a sword, and I don't even know if it's full tang or not. I'm pretty sure the crappy knockoff I just bought on Ebay is a rat-tail, but it's kind of expected for thirty bucks.

JJ, you're right about the stunt sword, though... I've handled one of those myself. I think the hilt was resin, but the blade was that same super-lightweight aluminum. I've wanted one of those ever since I handled that one. To this day I still can't get over how amazingly lightweight it was. To those who have never handled one, picture this. Imagine the sword you see above made out of aluminum instead of steel. Then imagine it weighing a tenth as much. Then imagine that made out of paper. You're still thinking too heavy.

I just saw who posted above me... Ask Sporak, he was there.. hehe. He also knows my FX Blade sword, as he helped me acquire it (still have it.. hehe).

Yeah, I own two stunt swords from the second movie (one whole and one half sword. w/scabbard..used when Wesley wore the long coat and they didn't want it poking out the bottom). Tony Swatton made them and they are light as a feather.

Sorry to hear about your broken sword, jax.

Make no mistake, this thing IS heavy. The endcap was glued onto the end of the tang, the grip was made of zinc or pot metal. It's entirely likely that the Factory X assembly is the same, otherwise it would be a pain to build.

You could always JB weld it together after you mod it with a blinking green LED and a "broken" blade. That way you can have a replica from the TV series :)

The issue with the rat tail tang is why I hesitate to display any of my swords (or SLO's) on the wall without some form of "block" or wood stop or something on the blade. Nothing would suck more than to have that blade pop out, and stab into your foot, or kids foot, or into a nice electrical outlet and start a small fire.

I'd just weld a big tang around the end of what's left of that one... then engineer how the handle assembles back on there a little better.

Sounds like a plan, the only issue is how to put the handle back together. I'm going to see if I can unscrew the tang from the pommel, but it's glued in pretty tightly.

Hey Mike, How's it going? :)
I was thinking of that very one when I read this post;)
And look just below you..Gary Barth,
I'll bet that was his we saw as he was at the same party :)

...and I still have that alternate Graflex button...

Just be glad you didnt find out how cheap it was like that old clip of the HSN guy! :confused

And yeah welding a hunk of steel around that toothpick of a tang then hollowing out the handle and reforming the top where the blade goes into the hilt...

Thats the only thing I could think of as well.

Good luck!
