I made an entire River Song gear set (manipulator not included) today as a rush order for SDCC, took 12 hours and I'm pretty much a zombie now. The whole time I was thinking how much I'd rather be finishing my prototype leather strap. So In the coming days, whenever I can find time between my bow tie run, my River diaries, my normal job, Dragon Con stuff, and general life obstacles, I'll be working on the strap. I can have a flapless version to show you guys pretty soon I think, just working out the technical kinks. Scotch tape make a pretty decent teflon presser foot.
I have just checked the links provided edlitmus and also the link provided by you Zenix thank you both very much this is a very nice relief to see these being sold.
I have seen the plastic and metal version the price is considerably diferent! nearly £50 british sterling for the stainless steel , isit a lot better and more effective guys? or do i just go for the plastic? would i notice the diference i.e isit worth it?.
I would defo consider this stainless steel metal version if i knew somone could do the electronics for me. do you know where i can find somone todo this if i provide the face plate, buttons and the items i want the circuit board underneath to contain and be attatched to the buttons?
I really wanted the circuit board underneath to contain the electronics found in my car key, that way i can open and lock my car using the buttons on the face plate what do you think?? I was also thinking the powerpoint/presentation pen used to flick slides over on a computer? and mayby a blue lED?

The stainless is nice, but the plastic is easier to work with. I don't know of anyone that has gotten any circuitry set up yet (if I am wrong I'd love to hear about it!). If you manage to get you car open with a vortex manipulator that would be epic, post a tutorial if you do it!
Just getting a blue LED installed shouldn't be too hard. Anything beyond that might be tricky. I have been trying to find a small LCD screen that I can install but haven't found anything I like yet.
anyone you can suggest on here that has done LED work with these? how is plastic easier to work with? yeah i really want eectronics fitted to open car but saying that i dont think id use it id be too embarissed lol so porob just waste of money but if i had a quote of somone who could do it if i provided them with a spare car key of mine id be up for paying it. anyone , any ideas? chris.
Zenix, i have read in past post the issues people were having with the stainless steel face plate and the buttons being to small and not fitting correctly. has this kissue been resolved now? need the stainless steel buttons to fit snuggly so can be pressed fine when electrics attatched.
are the 3 links to the 3 seperate pieces (face plate, oval buttons and round buttons) that edlitmus posted me earlier all to fit eachother properly no gaps or size issues?

will the plastic buttons fit snugly into the stainless steel face plate? and if i buy a samsung a300 phone and remove the circle button will that fit into the stainless steel faceplate accurately to?? want to buy asap.

The plastic and metal have differing shrinkage which is what causes the buttons to not fit. I think if you order everything in the same material you'll be fine. I would advise you choose black detail, because all of the other materials have rough surface textures and pitting that will make your life hell.
Also, the car clicker in the manipulator is GENIUS.

And if you were a real electronic wiz, and had a separate circle button, you might be able to have a directional button for: Lock, Acc, On, and Start... Maybe? :confused

That's not so much electronics genius as very skilled with a dremel. I like this idea though and really want to do it myself, but my clicker is pretty big, it might make the manipulator really clunky.
Patterning the actual strap part tonight, might sew it if I have time. The actual bulk of the pattern is already finished, assuming the windows in the leather line up properly after it's sewn together. The only thing really left to think much about is the flap.

in contact with a guy from canada who is confident to do my electrics for me which is great. costly but may be worth it. i need to send him the dimensions for the face plate Zenix whats the dimensions for depth and height and width mate?. and also i have just noticed the circular button on shapeways is not available how is that? it was lastnight. chris.
p.s i will be getting stainless steel, i would be sanding it down much just keep it as it is surely that be fine its not going to be to rough to touch or even cut yourself on right? will be closed in by leather wont it anyway.

thankyou very much. do you know if its possible to get the face plate with the circle section hollow so i can add electronics to the circle button?
if not ill have to make do with the 3 oval buttons being connected to electronics.
I have just placed the stainless steel faceplate into my shopping cart and also 3 black buttons will this be ok do you think or wont they fit ok?

From my own personal experience, you'll regret it if you order stainless steel. But what do I know? Go for it.
I finished patterning the whole strap tonight with the exception of the flap. I may wait on patterning that until I've sewn up the rest of the prototype to test fit while it's on the wrist. What I can say right now though is that River cosplayers will be luckier than Jacks because that inset veg-tanned piece is going to be a b**** to sew in and I'll be charging accordingly for the headache.
