Doctor who smiler sculpt

Thought I'd post a couple of pics of my new smiler sculpt. I absolutely loved these masks when they appeared in the new series, and had a go at a sculpt as soon as the episode aired. After getting together more reference material I wasn't happy with the first go and decided to try and sculpt a more accurate one. Any comments/critiques welcome.
The plan is to make at least two versions of the three heads after casting this one. I'm still experimenting with casting silicon rubber as I haven't used it before, and don't want to ruin the sculpt. Will post some pics when I get the mold done.
Cheers, Rich

Looks cool. The biggest thing that jumps out at me is the nose; yours is simply too thick. I think the angle of your face may be a little off as well. I can tell you've put a lot of time and effort into this, though! It's developing very nicely.

Here's a few more references, I hope they help. One thing you might try doing is taking your color references and turning them into grayscale. Might give you a better eye for the sculpt.

Thanks for the tips rollerboi, really helpful. It's good to get a second pair of eyes on it. I think you're right about the nose - will try slimming it down a bit. What do you mean about the angle of the face?
Planning ahead, I was wondering whether any one had any advice of what material to use for the dividing wall of the mould. It's sculpted in firm klean clay, and I want to keep the original intact to modify into the other versions. Would plastic strips embedded into the clay be strong enough to use with thick silicon, or should I use a clay?
Thanks again for the feedback.

Managed to eventually get my first smiler molded, cast and painted. The eyes are a little uneven, but overall pleased with the result. Going to alter the original sculpt, which came out of the mold perfectly to the two other types now. The crackle effect is achieved (after lots of testing) by using decoart one step crackle. I seem to be having difficulty getting any more here in the UK. Have three bottles left, so fingers crossed that will be enough for the three heads!
Cheers,
Rich

Thanks. The crackle glaze actually has a gloss finish, but for some reason it hasn't showed up on the photos.
Had a first go at altering the original sculpt to the 'frowner' version and attached a couple of photos. The mouth looks a little one sided, but not a bad first attempt. Any comments welcome.
Cheers,
Rich

Finished and molded the frowner. Definately getting better at this silicon moulding, came out a lot crisper with fewer bubbles this time. Have also sculpted and cast a few of the robotic cogs that go along one side. Used various washers/bolts etc. turned out pretty well. Also discovered, after three bottles of different crackle glaze, that the easiest and most consistant method is to draw the cracks on with a pencil and spray with gloss varnish.

Thanks for the comments guys, nice to see another dalek builder over here.
Pulled the first cast of the frowner, and quite pleased with it. Decided to use jesmonite instead of fibreglass, sick of the fumes, and am really pleased with how easy it is to use.
Will hopefully get the smiler sculpt finished and cast soon. Just needs smoothing out, but I think the proportions are ok. First time I've been able to line all three up together.

you should get some feedback off Fettster on this

He sculpted the original for the show :)

great job

words are beyond how stunning these are. good job.

are you planning to make a movable display? or even a walkaround costume?

that would be so neat and scary at the same time.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the commets. Not really thought ahead to a run. Having difficulty finding the time to finish one set. Still haven't gotten around to finishing the smiler scupt yet. Will update when I've made more progress.
Cheers,
Rich

brilliant work, i tackled this myself a while ago, sculpt took a nosedive of the shelf, great to see someone else tackle it

Finished and cast the smiler version. He's in the middle of being painted at the moment. Pretty pleased, think this is the best one yet as the eyes are facing forward on this one. Have also altered the demonic and frowner versions to remove the bozz eyes they both had and re-moulded them. That will be three sculpts for the demonic so it should be as accurate as possible. Funny thing is you can't really tell until they're painted. Will post some new pics when I get around to painting the other two.
