Hey all I have been working on this off and on since friday, it still needs a lot more detailing and refining but its getting there. Any input and all input is welcomed, needed and appreciated. Thanks for looking
It's a great start. I'd recommend getting the bucket shaped and perfectly smooth before adding the greeblies though. That being said, when you finish it I need one.
Thanks for the input I will take the greeblies off tonight and smooth everything out before I reattach them. Any suggestion on what to use for the hose holders on the sides of the helm?
With the price of the base helmet and the unwillingness of any of the available sites to even return my emails asking to sell it to me, I never even got to that point. Maybe just browse through the aisles at your local hardware store?
Would love to get one of these too. It's an awesome helmet. Shame the proper base helmet is so dang expensive. Very eager to see any more progress on this. It's looking great so far. I'm still hoping someone makes a good pep file for the base of it.
I love how it's always the same few people who get involved in the DW threads lol.
I would really love to do this but the only means I'd have of doing it is a good pep file. I suck at 3D modelling too so unless someone else does it, I'll probably never get to make a good one.
Sorry for not getting back to you guys faster yes its a Motorcycle helmet for the base but I have sculpted the angle of the helmet like the doctors instead of just slapping some clay on it. Oh and there was a pep file in the works but dungbeetle got a bit swamped with requests so it may still be possible to see one.
If we can get together a large collection of reference photos from a bunch of different angles, I think I know somebody who could make us a good pep file. I don't want to step on any toes, so Rex, if you want photos posted here that's fine with me, if not people can PM them to me.
Yeah I'm still hoping dungbeetle makes it at some point. His 3D helmet models are awesome.
EDIT: We could always start a new thread for reference pics (or I could send them to you). Is it the same helmet for The Satan Pit and The Waters Of Mars or are they different?
I have the 12" Doctor in Spacesuit figure from CO. I haven't compared to pics for the accuracy of the helmet, but it looks pretty good, don't know if it would be useful to extrapolate dimensions?
EDIT: Actually forget that I would rather keep my thread clean and more to the point of my project since it seems every thread that I have ever started on here gets hijacked with other peoples work then it trails off and dies.
Long overdue update I took Risu's advice and removed the greeblies to refine the actual bucket shape. I think I am about 60% done with the main bulk of the sculpt. Now I just have to find some small greeblies for the sides and refine the back a bit more. Let me know what you all think and I apologize for the post above my head was in a odd place at the time and I didn't cool down before posting.
Any who on to pics
Pretty good so far, but the visor should stick farther out from the dome. I bit the bullet and bought one of the original helmets with some help from a friend in Ireland. It'll be here in a couple weeks, I'll try to get a couple pics for you.
Now that you mention it the visor does look a little dumpy and squished in. I may build some clay up over the clear part and extend the rest over it. Thats awesome news on getting one of the base helmets I would love to see a proper one be offered instead of my ghetto build.
The possibility of me building up my helmet and then molding it has been discussed, but I need to get the thing in hand and look it over before I'll know for sure if I'll be able to do that.
Well, I'm sure I speak for ratchetrex and the rest of us nerds when I say: I hope you'll be posting some images and measurements when you get that in, Risu!
