Doctor Doom v2.0 WIP

I recently went on a course to study some new materials including latex and I am now using those new techniques to improve my Dr Doom costume for my 1 year cosplay anniversary.

Still got lots to do in the next week but it is taking shape.

New arm and undersuit.

Still need to do 1 full arm (shoulder, bisep, tricep, elbow, gauntlet), latexing, airbrushing and a few modifications to my suit.

Busy week ahead as the con is on Sunday >.<

I have upgraded to LD45 Plastazote from floor mats / EVA etc. I would advise anyone to update if you can as it is amazing to use compared to EVA. Also research your glue! If you are in the UK like me there is only 1 way to go and that is Alpha Thixofix http://www.thegluepeople.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_7&products_id=17

Seriously I have tested everything including the UK allowed Barge. This stuff beats them all hands down. Thin coat and wait for it to dry before sticking.

Also, upgrade to medical scalpels and throw away all your crappy craft knives. You only need 1 stem and the blades are stupid cheap and stupid sharp. Bin them when they go blunt.

Everything is basically LD45 foam build, then covered in a glue wash (thinned contact adhesive), then 2 layers of black latex (4 for boots), a dunk coat of latex, then 1 layer of latex + powdered silver, then air brushed to get the detailing to pop (as latex can be a bugger to stop from pooling).

Then you would normally apply a coat of polish (roofing primer) but this will take 48 hours to dry and the Manchester con is on Sunday so I won't be doing that lol.

Last night was all about the bicep and tricep.

Tonight I will complete the other gauntlet and do the shoulders.
Tomorrow night I will do the glue and 1st latex coats.
Saturday I will do all the remaining latex coats, airbrush and fix everything together with rivets, elastic etc.

I'm listing all this for my own sanity, going to be a mental few days ahead!

Very nice work! I like your method for sealing the foam. I might have to steal that for my next foam build!

Subbed! That is amazing! I didn't know you could even latex foam like that. I will definitely have to try.

I'm curious about the process, has it been detailed on the rpf anywhere? I'm having trouble finding anything.

Again, excellent work! Can't wait to see it done and have fun at the con Sunday!

So.. I finished at 3.15am on Sunday. Then got up at 6am to strap it. Then left for Manchester Comicon at 8.30am.

I don't remember much about the day to be honest other than about 1,000,000 people wanting my photo. I guess that means it was all a success.

Still got the undersuit to complete and the shoulders to attached.

Very nice! Finished just in the nic of time! Hope you guys had a blast, and really, the armor looks amazing from the photos.

Interesting method and some great looking results. Looks like you had a lot of fun out and about in it.

I've been hearing good things about the LD45 and the thixofix. Where do you get your supplies from? Also UK based and would interested in more details. Always on the lookout to improve.

Just got back from another con (Woscon) which I found out about 2 days prior. Decided to compete with my family and we won a framed GOTG poster signed by Vin Diesel.

While on stage I raised both of my arms high in the air and didn't realise that my gauntlets (built up on rubber gloves) has filled with sweat. WATERFALL!!!!!
