Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves

I've been getting alot of questions bout how to have an open faceplate on a foam helmet, I'll be posting pics of this helmet Im doin for an awesome customer (also this is sharkheads model modified by Jowe) which will have an open faceplate....so stay tuned:)

Re: foam with rondo+ brand new foam gloves and helmet

Looking forward to your write-up on the foam helmet faceplate. I just finished my helmet and would love to see how you go about doing this before I get it all painted and cleared. Right now I have it coated (PVA), base coat (Rustoleum Vinyl paint) and gold sprayed on the faceplate. Would love to be able to cut the faceplate off before spraying the red, thus saving me some masking.

if you're doing it on the interior. I'll tell you now, that it will work.

I've done it on my war machine to reinforce the back section to hold the minigun. Works perfectly.

Won't be a fail, so don't worry about it.

Never tried that before.....let me know how your test goes
Update. It does strengthen the foam. however it doesnt bond with it as well as it does with paper. Its firm but still flexible. Doesnt have that rock hardness that comes with fiberglassing paper. Hope this helps anyone wondering!

true,
That's why you back the foam with thin cardboard like I did first. it's really solid after a layer of fiberglass mat/cloth.

What do you put between the cardboard and foam? Just glue it on?

Hey Torx, he does mention sanding here:

Step 5. Filler primer. Heres where youll be able to tell if ya followed directions cuz itll be really flexible. After the first coat ya can lightly wet sand with 800 grit. If not proceed to next step. If you sanded make sure its cleaned before next coat.
