DL-44 Greedo Killer - start to finish (almost)

Excellent! Subscribed and dying to see more!

I'm doing a resin version and have been after a decent paint technique for ages. I think you've just solved my issues! You echo so many of the thoughts I've had about this as a project too. glad it came out so well. Where did you get the grill? Mine came pre CA'd on and debating cracking it off for a better one or filling my room with dust trying to get it even close to accurate!

I've been using Humbrol Metal Cote up to now with reasonable results. Also the AK True Metal tubes aren't bad.. I think i'll be getting some Metal Master Buffing Metalizer to add to the mix! Does it need airbrushing on?

When you did the weathering, did you have to seal the metal finishes first? previously i've made up a wash with artists Oils, thinners and some weathering powders to get a good grime but the thinners and oil attacks the metal finishes and basically strips it all off!

Great stuff man, thanks for posting!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the build!

I got the grill on ebay off the seller Corellian Exports. He also offers an aluminum version but like i mentioned it doesnt have the correct number of fins. I believe there is a member here in the junkyard that is doing a full run of the GK metal parts.

get the model masters metalizer! it is meant for airbrushing but its possible to paint it on with a brush as well. I used stainless steel and gunmetal. I used a brush with the stainless steel and an airbrush with the gunmetal. I did seal the eatal finishes before i weathered, I used the model masteres metalizer sealer which is pretty good. The oils are super important. put the oils on a piece of cardboard for 30 minutes to get the linseed oil out and then they will dry perfectly flat after applied in wash form. I use oderless tupenoid as the thinner. good luck and dont hesitate to ask if you have further questions..

User SolosHold - i don´t know if he still offers them, but it´s worth to ask him. His grills are really nice.

Right on, you are going to have an awesome blaster. I still think some of the metal pieces of the scope mount look too thick, especially the upper mount and the disks. Also, I think how you have the bar is backwards, the slight taper should face the barrel. Good luck with the build!

They arrived this morning and Solo has produced some fantastic machined work. Here they are with my other collected components. I have the plastic version of the grill too, from Corellian Exports on ebay but it has the 12 fin design so will be discarded in favour of this new accurate piece. Just waiting on the Mauser now...

It´s years ago i had the resin grill from CE, if i remember right their resin one was OK, but their metal one was not. But it was the only game in town then if you wanted metal.

Now you can´t go wrong with SolosHold metal grill. I only can recommend it.

Looks amazing! I'm actually painting some pewter and I think the zinc paint would work great!

Any chance you can share where you bought it? I can find zinc paint, just not in black.

This was definitely worth the wait. I have a SH GK killer being delivered today to use with a NOS flash Hider I found a couple weeks ago

This is the one I used, it's from Home Depot.

It it goes on really really grainy and takes lots of sanding and buffing to get it the surface to a state in which it can be blued. I always ended up with some pits after sanding so you may need a couple of coats. I would be very cautious using it on anything that has intricate details, seems like it would work best on things like barrels. Experiment and let me know how it goes. Maybe a different brand would go on smoother. Also, I experimented with burchwood Casey and Brownings blue and they both worked.

Can you share the brand of the zinc spray-on finish so I can look for something similar locally to try this for myself?

never mind, just found this;

tomm1999 I think the zinc sprays will always be silver then we have to use bluing or blacking solutions on top of that so it colours the zinc.

Gotcha, I thought it was black zinc paint. Still worth exploring and I will let you know what I figure out. I think in NZ and Australia the CRC company offers colored zinc paints.

Thanks again for sharing, build looks amazing!
