DL-44 build on newer Denix: Logo Addressed (no filler added)

Nice mods! It's labor intensive but so worth the effort to make the Denix more accurate. Looks great!
Appreciate the kind words, thank you. It’s a labor of love, really. It’s fun, it’s interesting, all rolled into one.

On this part I just happened to get the one part that has the hole drilled at the right (or slightly wrong) spot. I think what I’m going to try is throwing it in the vice, heat it up and see if I can lower the ceiling on the top so that when it’s sanded flat I don’t have a paper thin area. I’ll have to re-drill the hole a little lower, but definitely won’t have a paper thin area where the pin will pass through.

If the sight isn't going to be actually functional, for the sake of accuracy I'd just file the top flush and epoxy the sight in place, then fill and lower the pin holes just a bit.

Think I may go that route on my next build.

Because I’m so damn stubborn, I wanted to do this build without using any type of filling of any holes (with epoxy). Now thinking this through all before I go to bed again lol I might just take one of those zinc screws I have and drive it through and then re-drill it.

gunnerk19 did you get you stand today?

I got the stand, but it was the wrong one :(

Actually, this is the second stand I got from the seller. The first one had a little square affixed to the base meant to keep the blaster from tipping over due to the top heaviness of the blaster, but it was for a right handed blaster, so the square was actually in front on mine as shown.

The replacement I got today had the little square in the right place, but there was an extra shelf added to one of the vertical supports that keeps the blaster from sitting correctly on it.

The seller said he got mine mixed up with the Jyn Erso blaster, so he's building yet a third one for me and sending it out ASAP.

With all those pieces you could make a few extras and sell them in the Junkyard. Hit them with some solvent to loosen the pieces and call it a “DIY” stand lol. Saves on shipping.

I asked him if I could just snap that piece off, he said it ain't coming off. He's supposed to be including return shipping labels for these to go back.

Besides, I can imagine any solvent would frost or craze the acrylic too badly.

Gathered a screw and the sight and screwed it in easily. If you recall, these are the same screws I used to fill the other pin holes and they are the exact same size holes, so no need to remeasure if you try this.

Then it was time to start filing.

Getting lower I felt it was a good time to just go ahead and cut off the screw ends.

Time to clean up the flat area and smooth her out. I didn’t worry too much about cleaning up the sides since you wouldn’t be able to see them after I redrill the hole.

You can really see how thin that top area is around the screw. I’m glad I decided to just fill the hole and redrill it a little lower since there’s plenty of real estate. If I hadn’t you could have easily just pushed through it with your finger, I’m sure of it.

All in all, I’m glad you guys gave me the peer pressure to not ignore it

Thank you for fixing the sight! I wanted to but didn’t think I could pull it off, until I saw your screw trick for the other holes. Now I know it works and I’m inspired, so thanks!

This looks perfect! The best sight mod I’ve seen on a Denix, I love it.

Thanks Pedro. I won’t have time to drill the new hole until this weekend but once I do I’ll throw the pic up and let you all know how it worked out or if there were any pitfalls.

Was able to redrill the hole after work today. No real science here, I just eyeballed it. Only thing left now is to blue gun itself which I’ll probably start doing tonight and then paint the aluminum bar mount for the scope mount. I’m still on the fence as to what I want to do with the scope mount, blue it or paint it. Most likely I’ll paint it to match the aluminum bar mount.
