You can usually remove the face plate of the router base (generally a plastic plate so you don't scratch the work surface) it usually held it with three screws... Remove those three screws and then use the faceplate as a template to mark the center hole and the three screw holes on your table... Hit up the hardware store for three similar but slightly longer screws that will go through the 1/2" MDF and and into the router simply mount the router under the table with the three screws...

Basically just swap the plastic face plate with the table top...

Commercial "generic" tables usually have swinging locking tabs but for a custom job like yours using the existing hardware is best...

And no you shouldn't need the adapter plate if you do as I suggest...

Word of caution routers are nasty uncontrollable beast, make sure to keep an eye on the mounting screws and make sure they are not backing out or getting loose...
