Saw one of these Longshot nerf guns at TRS last week and figured Id take a stab at a quicky project with a District 9 inspired repaint.

looks really awesome!
only critique would be to sand down the longshot drs or wahtever on the shroud

Yeah, I had sanded down the "Nerf" logo along with a few other words on the body....For some reason i thought the "Longshot" and the "caution" warning on the opposite side looked OK to leave on.

Maybe I should have taken it off...Oh, well, maybe next time.

I love the chipped paint effects around the edges - nice work. Any tips/tricks on how to achieve that?

Thanks (Actually, Im not as happy with the weathering as I'd like...FOr some reason I think I went a bit overboard.
I dunno, maybe it's just me.)

After the initial spray paint job was dry, I used a thin brush and sponge and applied the chipping and scrapes by hand with silver gloss acrylic (Liquitex).

Some people also use a method of giving the gun a coat of silver paint, and then painting black over it...Then use sand paper to scrape the black paint off , revealing the silver on the desired areas.

Looks great! The weathering is fine! I would weather the shroud a bit more though. All those small holes and angles could use some silver.

P.S. what are you going to do with the front attachment?

I'll take it off your hands if you don't use it!!

I cant believe Nerf now! When I was little the guns were NOTHING like this.
WTG NERF!
Awesome repaint!

Im pretty sure Nerf's designers are trying to kill two birds with one stone.
They're providing kids with a cool toy while at the same time catering to the more adult mod fans.

I think this is a brilliant transformation.

A really tough looking piece that as other's have said, could so easily sit right in the D6 movie.

Cheers for thinking outside of the square and for sharing!
