Disney Interactive Yoda - Custom made Display Base - By MasterBlaster

Hi The RPF,
Back home, before I get back to my Alumminium Falcon, I've just got a new display cabinet and on the way putting my toys in places I noticed that my Disney Interact Yoda shelf was too "empty". Then I've decided to make a base to display him, What should be a day quick building.... I'm on the second day... and one more day to come.

I've started by measuring a piece of cardboard and gluing a base for one tree.. to get a view for the scale...

Then, cut the base and wrapping the "tree" with packaging paper, making a base for the tree roots and rocks.

I was out of any sculpting medium...
There are few things that do not need to be re-invented, you know? "the right tool for the right job".. but sometimes I like the experimentation with household stuff... some time ago I did watch a few videos on YTube of people sculpting with cement.... Well lets give it a try? I've used quick set cement, and for this type of job... this stuff is perfect.. better than clay. I liked working with it very much.

Covered the paper base with that stuff... it dries VERY FAST, so a few mixing and layering was needed.
This is the result.

Then some cleaning up, and starting the paint job, Using a cheap most plastic single action airbrush, and the acrylic paint which comes with the airbrush set (bought it in the Lidl (supermarket chain in Europe)).
First shading black.

Added to the black mix, some red and yellow paints, thinned with Tamya X20
Dark reddish/Brown

Adding white paint.
More shades of brown.

To the same paint mix I've added some green(lots of it) and yellow.

More shades (3 or 4) of green (more yellow and/or white)

Detailing.
Vegetation/Plants: One (I dont know the scale) pine tree, cut the branches and sticks.
Grass: Grass sheet (I dont know the scale), I've rubed it to get only the "green stuff"...lol..
Leafs: Printed out "dry leafs" scaled to the size of Yoda's hand, and cut with a x-ato knife (hard work here)...
Ponds: Another experimentation as I did not have a proper water effect medium, I did use Power Epoxy Plastic (Clear finish). And once again hit the spot, I think!

Ended up with this:

Love the leaves and the overall "swampy" look. The work paid off.

Re: Disney Interactive Yoda - Custom Display Base

Hi all,
I have it done.

Latest additions:

Aerial roots: Garden wire, covered in cement.
Hanging Moss: I've got a cotton ball and "open" it, soaked with acrylic green paint, and then lots of pull, stretch.... dammit throw to the bin... start over...
Tree Sap: Epoxy glue, put it on the tree trunk and let the gravity do the job.
White slimy things (droplets): I don't know what that things are, maybe animal eggs? fungus? I have no idea... just thought would looks more slimy putting these things there. gross!
I would give a gift to the one who guess right what are they made of, any players?

More water, sssslimy... mycky... swampyyyy...
And for last, Humbrol clear, overall mist coat. and then in some spots a very wet spraying to give a wet effect.

Lets go to the pics:

Test photos at building time.
Sorry for the mobile photos on this first set. but they are a good overview.
