Disney buying Lucasfilm (new Star Wars movies on tap)

Next thing you know, Disney will buy Walmart so those toy shelves are stocked with everything SW.:rolleyes

I wonder what the effect will be on all the original props out there, like $250,000 Stormtrooper helmets! Do Disney historically shut down auctions like Profiles etc?

I knew there was some deeper meaning behind this

:lol

On serious note, I'd have preferred it if GL hung on in in there, rather than even begin to associate SW & Indy etc with Disney :wacko

You can clearly see who are members of the 501st here. "They wouldn't dare touch us" :lol

He's been saying he's done with Star Wars for a while.

Good for George! (seriously)

Bring on EP7, JJ! Faster, more intense, with a truckload of lens flare.

HUGE news. Everything that was off the table is now at least able to see the table. Only time will tell if it's a good thing.

I certainly didn't wake up thinking Episode 7 would be announced today, let alone buried in the 6th paragraph of a press release.

Some thoughts:

- Star Wars merchandise in Disney retail shops
- Even more DVD/blu-ray (or whatever the next format is) special gold sparkly editions
- Star Wars animated shows on Disney XD channel
- "I told you so"s from nerds elated that Star Wars is officially more valuable than any pro sports team ( I keed, I keed...)
- kickstarter project to buy enough Disney stock to force a change back to Han shot first, lol
- Okay so $4B value, roughly half cash and half stock. Exactly what Uncle George's share will be doesn't matter ($1B?, $500M? more? less?), but it will be a lot, especially combined with whatever he already has - all likely well more than he can spend before the end of his days, even Brewster's Millions-style. So, who or what institution will be the beneficiaries? Buildings on USC campus? Film school? What charities? There's a lot of philanthropy coming from that man in coming years, will be interesting to see what he does with it.
- re: props and costumes, militant Disney legal goonery partially offset by continued lack of any action whatsoever by eBay
- Star Wars vs Avengers vs Iron Man vs X-Men vs Wolverine vs Iron Man Stormtrooper all = Kill It With Fire

(edit) one more: - hundreds of droning "reaction" videos posted on YouTube, average views per vid: 34.

This could be good for the Starwars franchise.
This will be very bad for the RPF. :unsure

This is truly jaw dropping news to me. I'm excited that there will be a 7, 8 and 9 and the possible release of the unedited OT on Blueray but on the other hand I'm sure the Star Wars brand will now be even more inundated with anything that they can stamp the SW logo on. I sure hope they respect the fans that kept this franchise alive all these years and not go all legal on them.

Honestly? I'm ok with that. I used to have a problem with the proliferation of the brand on any old piece of junk out there, but (A) I eventually remembered that it was like that when I was a kid (e.g., Star Wars crappy elastic belts), and (B) I finally just got to a point where I didn't NEED them making any new content for me. I mean, I'd love it if they did, but if not, no biggie. The only thing I really want from Star Wars anymore, is the Star Wars I grew up with. I'd even be delighted to pay for a mega box set that collects the prequels, the SEs, and the restored OOTs...just for the restored OOTs. That's all I want anymore. Just that. And I think Disney recognizes there's a market out there for it -- a market in it's early 30s to mid 40s, with disposable income, that WANTS this product. Without the emotional tie to "my stories" that Lucas had, I expect Disney will get to work on it. Then the only question will be whether they do a good job.

Star wars aside... Let's not forget how this could mess with the Indiana Jones Replica market as well

Indy's a LOT harder to mess with for things like the costume. I mean, it's not like they're gonna just shut down Akubra or Flightsuits or whathaveyou (but if they do, damn I'm glad I got my G&B Goatskin....). The props like the fertility idol, and the staff of Ra headpiece, though, those are a different story. I'd hope that Disney continues LFL's policy of "benign neglect", but I wouldn't necessarily count on it.

I read a quote from a friend that cracked me up - Carrie Fisher is now a Disney Princess!!

Mickey will most definitely not shoot first :lol

Oh boy, the news hasn't quite sunk into my head yet. I want to say alot, but all I can think of is ... it just sounds .... wrong :confused
