Disney buying Lucasfilm (new Star Wars movies on tap)

Maybe we should just have a forum section called All things Star Wars 2015 and beyond to keep up with all these threads!

Despite anything you might read, no one has agreed to do anything yet - that incluindes writers, directors, and cast. Lots of magazines selling issues, and websites whoring hits, but NOTHING has been confirmed beyond:

Episode 7
ideally films following 2-3 years after
George has written treatments, and will serve as "creative consultant"

That's it so far. Everything else is BS at this point.

As much as the 3D is hyped in general, it tends to be a fad that comes and goes every few years with films. Until the format is more immersive and consistent I don't forsee Star Wars getting released in 3D on a home video format any time soon. There seems to be a huge gap in quality presentation with 3D. Some films look great, like Avatar, and others look terrible, like Clash of the Titans.

All of the films getting 3D theatrical releases see home release as well though. What's truly weird is that I agree with you and can't see SW3D bowing on BD. Why should that be when Titanic has, and I'm sure so will JP? Who knows, but it feels right to say it, doesn't it?

saving star wars from disney lol

I don't doubt that it will be released on a 3D home video format, I just don't think it will be soon. Most home theater owners haven't converted their systems over to 3D yet, and in my opinion, the consistency of quality isn't up to par. I have yet to see a 3D home video system that blew me away. They're probably out there, but I just haven't seen one in person.

I wouldn't be so sure. If what Timmythekid is saying is accurate and the 3D versions are all in 1080p, then they really have a tight window to release this in. Think about it this way. If someone said they were releasing a 3D version of a particular film but the resolution was, say, that of a laserdisc (480p), would you buy it? That's what Disney risks if they wait for people to adopt 4K sets.

You raise a valid point, though, in that a lot of people just don't have 3D sets, having bought their HDTVs back around 2009 or so before 3D started appearing as a feature. So, if the window is small to release the 3D version of the films (that being the 3D converted 1080p versions), but the market is just as small...why would they bother?

I know a lot of other films are done in 3D, but that's usually because they were ALREADY done in 3D in the theaters, and even then they're released as a packaged deal with the regular version. I mean, maybe they'll do it because they've got money to burn, but it seems like there's less of a market for that due to hardware limitations.

That was pretty uninformative, sadly. I mean from them, not you, OldKen. I appreciate the link, just didn't think they had a ton of important stuff to say.

Actually, i think something might have been buried in there.

In talking about turning things over the 'Kathy', he said he gave here the treatments for 7, 8, and 9, and a bunch of other films.

It would be very interesting to know what constitutes 'a bunch of other films'. More SW? 10-12? single character? Indy? completely new work?

Yeah, I saw this last week and was why I felt GL's influence over the future film releases would be meaningful. It's also partly why I feel the way I do about the whole OOT debate.

I think they mean to do the new trilogy and then single one off films of secondary characters ala Avengers style. Then perhaps films that combine them at times.
