Disney buying Lucasfilm (new Star Wars movies on tap)

The Very Best of the Disney/Star Wars Mash-Up Art

Right..so when can we get a run in of these in the junkyard? Except what the hell's up with the sterling?

I know it's a joke, but people seem to think that Uncle George doesn't own the Ranch now... he still does.

well I'm surprised this is only 29 pages! :p

don't know what to think... I'm thinking SWW at Dworld with the 501st might end, but just to do the "day to day" troops (ie kid hospitals, toy drives stuff like that) I hope we'll be okay to still do.

I know of a toy drive for the SCG to troop is coming up & get this...
it's going to be aired on KABC!!

so I guess (for now) the 501st & RL is okay with Disney. =\

Not that it couldn't change, but i think people are WAY overreacting on that aspect. Sure disney has been that way with their direct properties. However, they've not been that way on Pixar's stuff nor on Marvel's stuff. Their MO in those cases seems to be hands off and let the company (marvel, pixar, lfl) handle their own business. If they bought a company and simply engulfed it into disney (i.e. no more lucasfilm), there might be cause. As it is though, I don't see it happening. No their present MO with their holdings and more bad than good would come of it.

Screw mobile and social gaming :)

Agreed. I'm playing video games alone in my house because I don't want to be using my phone or be 'social'. At least 1313 will not get punished, as it is the only game I am looking forward to besides a future Fallout. And screw that guy for using unironically using "opportunistically" in a sentence.

Simply because he has been so adamant about which versions are out there and see's the Blue-Ray release as THE definitive and official cut of the films. Besides, to be honest the market out there for the original films is relatively small and likely not worth the cost of doing a restoration.

Don't tell me you believe that bulldust Lucas has been spinning for the last 10 years.

The original, unaltered footage still exists, and it has already been restored. You know why? Because most of the aggravating ***** Lucas added was added into existing footage.

Plus we all know that he saves everything. If he didn't then how is it that he's been able to release "newly found content" for each new release of the films? The OT deleted scenes on the Bluray box set was only a fraction of the known material that was released. The original cuts exist.

When they compare it to Marvel, it makes sense. They've been doing 2-3 films per year as well, leading up to The Avengers.

Not neccissarily 3-4 SW films a year, just, you know, having LFL actually make movies. Almost like they were a company founded to make films or something....

I was a little bummed at the direction Disney said they saw LA going (mobile and social), until I read a little further and what they're really talking about is the IN-HOUSE component. Large-scale, PC and console games will still be done, just through external developers. Which is fine as most in-house has been garbage since before TG split off and went across the street.

Could Disney release a 1080p blu ray version of the unaltered original trilogy if they wanted to? How much material did Lucas turn over to them?

I still dont understand why Lucas seems to want to destroy the originals?

Blade Runner on blu ray comes with 5 versions. I watch all of them occasionally. Its nice to have a choice. Maybe people wouldn't hate the "special editions" of Star Wars so much if they had the same choice.

When I watch Blade Runner on blu ray, I am even MORE impressed at how good the special effects look. That is one gorgeous movie. Maybe the unaltered Star Wars doesn't looks as great in HD?

Disney can't be oblivious to this situation. How long before they comment on it?

My guess is the soonest we might hear about the unaltered SW trilogy would be shortly before SW VII to cash in on the fandom wave.

It's possible no announcement yet because they also don't want to immediately turn around a (In Lucas' eyes) stab him in the back. I'm pretty sure Lucas knows Disney will eventually do this, however.

Totally agree.

I don't think they have the rights to that. At least not yet. I wouldn't expect them to comment on it until they have the whole property which I believe isn't until 2015.

Even then, I still think Lucas will be dead before we get the originals restored. It'll cost $ but there's definitely a big enough market to justify it.

If only it was that soon. According to this article, the rights to the five main movies will go to Disney in May of 2020. Unfortunately, the original Star Wars (ANH) looks like it will remain with Fox forever.
