Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

Brand new here and this thread is full of great knowledge ! I backed two of these as it’s my favorite ship in all of sci fi! I had the amt models that quickly self destructed with pylon weakness and several of the diamond select versions which were really detailed for what they were at the time

The prototype already looks great ! The paint scheme is beautiful , and from the video , it looks like they may have already repainted certain parts of it vs the Tomy pics (like the front of the bridge as someone already mentioned , and the strongback).

A lot of interesting things in that video :
Chris’ statements that the upper saucer grid may be altered slightly - wonder if that’s to further conceal the seam between the bridge and rest of saucer , plus the impulse deck .

His reaction to an enterprise-a :)

The tmp-style startup at the end !!

His comments on a “bottom up” construction vs the split down the middle construction on the TOS

They even included small details like the lights in the forward part of outer nacelle grills (not sure the actual name lol )

I’m so excited about this !!

Welcome Refitter!!!!!!!!!!!! (y) :)

Now, get out! Get out of here now and never look back.

We are like the mob, once you are in, you are never out.

Also your wallet will never be the same. Mostly empty.

You think you have collected, lived on the wild side, but you have never been here.

Run :p:eek::devil:;):unsure:

I think when they have all the tooling and training in place they would do any variations of the Refit, but maybe do one in between other ships.

Now hush your mouth on the D. (n) Enough. It's been done. I am behind on my Fanhome D as it is.

You meant Excelsior and the E I am sure.(y):p:eek::lol:

I was talking smack about the Enterprise D but the E is pretty cool. Great lines and proportions. Not as "squished" looking from the top down as the D.

I LOVE the pearlescent paintjob on this, but I equally love what ILM did on the repaint for Wrath of Khan. I wonder if TOMY will offer a variation of the 1701-A without the "A" markings (assuming they'll do it), so Wrath of Khan fans could add a beautiful model of the ship as she appears in their favourite movie.
Can you bring me up to speed on this? The wrath of Khan ship had the "A" scrubbed off? Y'all are talking about "A", but I don't know what you're referring to, cuz it sounds like you're talking about a Wrath of Khan variant, but that actually doesn't have the A, if that's the case, right?

Google is not doing its job, I cant find a good site comparing the STTMP and ST2 Enterprises.

Also i'm curious what was done with the giant hero model for wrath of khan-- did they actually modify THAT one for battle damage or were all those effects done on 3 foot versions, and I assume it was a 3-footer they blew up for STIII, but I don't know the story behind that either.

ok I guess i've just been calling Enterprises the wrong thing for 35 years or so.

I thought "refit" and "A" were the same thing, I thought STTMP enterprise had an A on it. I didn't realize they were two different ships altogether, and that A didn't come along until after its mother got bloweds up reel gewd in ST3 by one royally cheesed off baby-daddy. learn sumthin new....

Yeah, everybody gets confused about that initially :). Interestingly, the effects supervisor- Ken Ralston -wanted to create a new ship model (he infamously hated the Enterprise model) for the Enterprise A but as happens with production, they wanted to save some money so they had his team instead refurbish and reuse the Refit model after TSFS (yes, it is indeed the same giant hero and yes, I believe the "destruction" model was a 3-footer). That model also received a modified paint job for TWOK which I believe was replicated for TVH which is what cking is referring to.

I'm thinking all the people that missed out are not making that mistake again, and of course the flippers are going to be pumped up having seen what happened previously. I'm still sitting on my 2nd TOS E.

My prediction is that once collectors get their Refits in hand, they're going to be wanting the TOS Tomy even more to compliment it. I wouldn't be surprised if they fetch double what they're going for now by that time.

I think prices are already escalating for the TOS. A LOT of people missed out on it, most because they didn't even know the project was on! TOMY might have sold a ton more TOS E's if they had just advertised better! Missed opportunity!

I think we'll be seeing it hit 3K by thanksgiving, and I have a hunch it'll settle into that range permanently. They won't fall apart and warp like the Master Replicas, so I don't think they'll be quite as scarce as the MR's, hence probably won't be fetching $5K and up like an MR in good shape.

Does anyone know a ballpark figure of how many MR's were made?

I wonder what the upcharge was for those siggies. Did they sign the actual ship, or maybe just the stand or something on the bottom?

so there's 2000 of those mambo jambos wandering the galaxy, stirrin' up space-sh!te. That's not too far off from the print run of the Tomy TOS (2515, according to legend). Maybe over the years the Tomy's will continue to appreciate into $5K and $10K territory, being one-of-a-kind in terms of being sculpted in metal. Nor do I see any other companies stepping in with competing metal vehicles. I've no blessed idea how the stars aligned for Tomy to smelt these for us knuckleheads, but I can't ever see that being replicated in this timeline.

Has there been any word from Tomy about this since launch? They must be happy with how it's going. I'm really hoping they use the additional money to finesse the model, since a higher volume will reduce the unit cost. I remember the fine tuning took longer than they expected last time and it was all a bit rushed in the end — hopefully that doesn't happen again.

I think the team was quite happy with their work…and sales!
