Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

New FAQ posted by TOMY:

Hey Insiders,

Only one week to go until our campaign is live! Check out this new close up of the SURAK Shuttlecraft with Warp Sled.

Update: the campaign will now run from August 1st through September 15th

We’ll be sharing more details about how to back the campaign next week, but first, it’s time for another round of FAQs!

REPLICA FAQs:

CAN THE SHIP BE REMOVED FROM THE BASE?

Yes, it can be removed from the base.

WILL THE POSITION OF THE SHIP ON THE STAND BE ADJUSTABLE?

No, the ship position will NOT be adjustable (However, the ship will be level in the final production model).

DO THE LIGHT FEATURES STILL WORK IF YOU REMOVE THE SHIP FROM THE BASE?

No, the ship needs to be connected to the base in order to use the light features.

WILL THE SAUCER SECTION BE LIT ALL THE WAY AROUND INSTEAD OF JUST ON THE STARBOARD SIDE AS IT WAS ON THE TOS MODEL?

Yes, it will be lit all the way around.

WILL THERE BE SPOTLIGHTS ON THE SHIP’S INSIGNIA?

Yes, the spotlights on the base are meant to illuminate the ship’s markings (insignia, call sign, etc.).

IS THE DEFLECTOR DISH BLUE OR ORANGE/YELLOW?

The deflector will switch between blue for Warp and orange for Impulse power, depending on which mode the consumer selects.

CAN THE INTERIOR OF THE REPLICA BE ACCESSED FOR MODIFICATIONS? CAN THE REPLICA BE DISASSEMBLED?

The interior cannot be accessed by the consumer for modding. The replica is not meant to be disassembled, but once the collectors get their replica, they can do whatever they want to it. However, any modification will void the warranty.

WHY IS THE POWER CORD NOT INCLUDED?

We decided not to include a power cord since we know collectors' needs vary greatly when setting up their displays. USB-C power cords are readily available in a variety of lengths and colors, so users can choose the best cord for their needs.

What more can you ask for.

Sounds great!! (y) :notworthy:

Even spotlights. My God.

Oh no! They won't ship to the UK. Anyone got any ideas how I can get one here without it costing another$500 in shipping?

No way that I know of. Check with international shippers for a rate. Box should be about same size and weight as the TOS one.

I checked for you, and it cost me $275 to ship the Tomy TOS Enterprise to the UK. This was the cheapest non-ocean freight I could find after weeks of searching, BUT it was from a friend in the US (I'd initially shipped it to his house) not a reshipper like Stackry, which was estimated to cost considerably more (I kid you not, I saw quotes of over $1000 just for the shipping from some places).

That $275 also doesn't cover the import fees I had to pay on top, and I seem to recall that the shipping overall cost me somewhere around £350-400 altogether. I spent a lot of time trying to find a cheaper way, but there wasn't one.

Thanks for the info. Damn, that's what I feared - the total cost of shipping is going to equate to the same amount of money again as the cost of the ship itself. I need to dig deep to see if I can live without this in my collection!

It will be worth it. I am broke, as always, but I will scrape up the money and if I had to pay double I would. I think you will feel it's worth it.

I wish I had the money to buy extras and then ship them to you guys as cheap as possible, I just don't have the money. I may have to skip some upcoming stuff, but the Refit will be mine no matter the cost.

Yes, it practically doubled the cost. The only way of reducing the cost (and it was a fair bit cheaper) was ocean freight, but that took weeks. I figured that the longer it was in transit, the higher the chances of it getting damaged, which I wasn't willing to risk because of the limited availability.

It may not be a terrible idea if there's a few of us in the UK who want one for us to group together and pay for shipping a pallete of them to one of our houses, from where we could either come and collect or post onwards. This obviously requires a level of trust in a stranger, but I expect it would be much cheaper than sending one or two by themselves.

Good idea. There are plenty of UK members who have been here forever and can be trusted. Plus you know where they live. (y)

Probably just as cheap or cheaper to fly over and take it back yourself.

I shipped a 1701 to Germany and IIRC it was about $130 to ship International USPS Priority using the eBay shipping system (you get a substantial discount from walkup cost). It was about to ship one to the UK, it was pretty close to identical in ship cost.

Shipsaver.com also offers discounted rates.

Also you get a discount on the USPS website when purchasing and printing labels online.

Tangentially related question.... do you think it'll be still be $50 shipping if you buy a refit "3-pack", or $150? has that been asked and answered already somewhere?

edit: oops I thought I was in the refit thread

I know it’s going to cost but if you can swing it, it will be worth the hassle and price. I think this piece will be special….really a true one of a kind due to size and being made of diecast. Just like the TOS E.

Model builders will charge you thousands for a Refit with lights and all the detailing. The Aztec pattern alone is a ton of work. Look at Factory Entertainment who is charging 16 grand for theirs:

I know the wallet will hurt but once you have her in your hands you’ll be one happy camper. :)

No disrespect intended to anyone who bought the TOS toy or will buy the refit, but I am more than happy with my PL Enterprise I built, lit and painted...

And I will be starting this monster in a few months or so...

This for me is similar to another hugely expensive Takara item, the Diaclone Reboot Great Robot Base set. Each vehicle that make it up is 500 bucks, so a grand for the whole thing. As much of a Diaclone collector as I am, I refuse to pay a grand for a toy. Which is why I made my own. I have a thread here for any interested.

And these are in the same category. Both these diecast Enterprise toys are as much as my rent. Whereas I can buy these models, piecemeal out costs for upgrade parts, lighting ect. And eat the cost over time(and be ultimately cheaper.)

Plus I put my heart into the TOS kit, and I think its my best model build, period.

Ok, off my soapbox. Hopefully didn't tick off anyone.

Hey as I always say each to their own. At the end of the day we do the things that make us happy, because all these replicas are basically toys, even the props from movies…ok people don’t be offended…lol.

Collectors come in all shapes and sizes, it’s a big family. Buy, make, trade, sell and share what you love, any genre any property. Just enjoy and have fun. That’s what I say.

You are in The Original Series thread but the two have morphed together. To answer your question, if you order three you will pay $50.00 each to ship them.

If anyone wants a Large, really nice Enterprise E you only need, likely around 15K as that is what they charge for the Refit and Excelsior.

Yeah saw this. Awesome models though some of the decals look off and some detailings aren’t as crisp…but still an awesome model. All of them! But not for mere mortals.
