Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

Yes it’s the infamous Eaglemoss now Fanhome kit. I am awaiting my last stage that includes the decals for the saucer section

Subscription "issues" aside, the Fanhome D is damned impressive, even when built entirely stock. Issues like light bleed and blotchy nacelle lighting can be relatively easily dealt with by inexperienced modelers (such as myself). While there are other inaccuracies and issues that can be hard to ignore (some goofy seam lines and - most annoying to me - nav lights that don't blink in sequence because they are powered by separate batteries) and would be harder to correct, it does NOT look like a toy, which I have to say is what the TOMY TOS and now recently announced TMP ships look like to me.

Here some pics of the REFIT from the Facebook page for people who didn’t see it!

To Tomy's credit, it looks like they're fixing a few of the worst inaccuracies from the Polar Lights Refit kit, like the shape of the impulse exhaust and magnatomic flux grills. ON EDIT: But the area where the nacelle pylons meet the secondary hull looks pretty wonky.

Oof. Those are some serious hot spots on the nacelle flux chiller grills though. To be fair, I have gone through a bunch of iterations on the lighting setup in that area to get something I was happy with on my PL 350. It's not necessarily a simple problem to solve, especially with budget and mass production manufacturing constraints.

Wouldn’t it be simple enough to put more led lights in? Spread evenly? Hopefully they’ll solve that problem. But it actually doesn’t look that bad here in these pics. There was another pic that was way worse than the one I just posted.

More LEDs wouldn't hurt, but good diffusion is the key. I ended up using salvaged diffusion materials out of a dead TV along with a pretty dense (144 LED/m) RGB LED strip. In the end, I'm sure it comes down to cost on a product like this.

There's some slight unevenness in this pic because it's running an idle animation effect that varies the brightness of the emitters in a water like pattern. But when it's on solid, it is about as perfectly even as you can get.

That is cool! Nice job! Looks great!

Hopefully TOMY will get it right. Even if it never gets perfect, it should be better than what’s pictured which IMHO isn’t the worse…just make it better.

Well at least it's diecast. I didn't think they were gonna do it. Truthfully I wish they would have picked something else to go with the TOS-E. Another Enterprise seems rather redundant and they could have waited until they did more TOS stuff. A warbird or Klingon Cruiser 1/350 would have been awesome. I don't think we have seen those before in that scale. Oh well. The price is good. It doesn't look like it will have a shuttle bay interior at this point or a bridge interior. We shall see....I will have to think about this. Space will be an issue...

I’m not sure it’s redundant, the refit is such popular variation that it’s bound to have a high rate of commitment. Same with the D which imo will be the next ship.

I to would love a Klingon Battlecruiser or Romulan warbird or a Klingon BOP. But would they generate the interest TOMY is looking for? I’m not sure.

I think once TOMY has done all the really popular ships they might move on to the aforementioned ships.

At 1/350 each I’m gonna run out of space soon. lol

If you go back in this thread the overwhelming choice is the Refit. It's not even close.

I am so glad as it's one of my favorite ships and likely the only of my favorites that's gonna be offered. I will never have the skill or patience to build the Polar Lights so I could not be happier.

Now Excelsior, Enterprise E, and Enterprise F, in that order (y)

There is no way on God's green earth I would have enough space to display five 32"+ diecast models... lol

The D would have to be a much smaller scale... ...
