Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

But you could have received it, not even bothered to open the box, and then turned around the same day and sold it for $600-$1000 more than you paid for it. Right now over TWENTY of them have sold on eBay with the lowest price being $1200 going up to far more than that.

To say, “I didn’t like the nut holding the neck on, so I made the quite rational decision to screw myself out of the extra $600-$1000 dollars someone would have paid me to buy it from me!”, doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. It was a bad choice. That’s the unfortunate bottom line. :(

Its still work to get the account, set up the listing, get the money transferred to someplace you can use it, and get the thing shipped out,and heaven forbid the buyer isn't happy, or something gets damaged. You are still having to work a bit for the extra money. For many that extra $600 or whatever is worth that hassle. For others ( not me) who earn that in 15 minutes at their regular job , its just not worth their time.

It wasn't wrong to cancel. Prices are speculative. For all we know Tomy will discount them, or sell them at the same retail price, and your model won't sell till that supply is exhausted. And again, heaven forbid, maybe some other defect comes to light: oil spots in the paint, chipping, early failure of electronics etc could come to plague the model in the meantime and lower the price further . I don't think that is likely- but that extra money from a sale isn't risk free.

I hope some point in the future TOMY might address the whole controversy. Be transparent with the fans and let us know what really happened. I know that probably isn't going to happen but I certainly would like to know. Not for any reason other than just wanting to understand how the broken promises transpired, how things didn't workout. Not looking to lay blame just wanting to get the whole picture.

I think if they did that people would be more understanding and more likely to support future BIG PROJECTS that TOMY will offer.
Making plugs instead of filling and sanding and filling and sanding was probably a time factor to them as it possibly would have pushed delivery out for a few more months.

The top of the Saucer is plastic, and the Nacelle struts are sort of a firm rubber. Otherwise everything else is diecast. Its about 10 inches from stem to stern. I was just judging relative scale by looking at the hands in the video..
Yeah I think the Franklin Mint is 18" and all diecast. So it held the reign of largest TOS Diecast Enterprise for 31 years till this year....

Did your brother not want it for the same reasons specified on this thread? Just curious or did he just simply not want it in the end?
Well kinda and kinda not. He didn't like the seams etc at first. But he is having some personal issues and just doesn't want it now. I was gonna hold on to it for him but he said he just doesn't want it.......so I'm stuck with two. But that's not a bad thing. I paid over a year ago for these so it's not a big deal

I'm with spidey and weiss. No wrong decisions to be made here. I had ordered extra to sell online, but after the debacle, and after nearly 2 weeks of consideration, much of what weiss has said here went through my mind. Ultimately I chose to keep one for myself, but get some refunded. I don't regularly sell on ebay, and don't want the hassle of trying to get my money back online. With 20% of my sale going to ebay, I knew I'd have to sell it for $800 just to make back what I had in it. More comfortable keeping my money.

That's cool. Sorry if he's going through a rough time. I wish him well. There are more important things in life than collecting things. Thanks for sharing.

Honestly, I think I'd go after a 6 foot Enterprise if I could get one.
Your prayers are answered my friend!

Though this is a 5 foot model! :)

Looks awesome, alas my pockets aren't that deep so a 3 footer is as big as I'll probably ever own. That one costs more than my Honda. I'd have to do my own crowdfunding to afford that Enterprise!

I'm gunning for lotto in order to get this lol! This has been up for at least a year or more! Curious to see if this actually sells. Actually surprised it hasn't. Thought someone would foot the bill at some point.

Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos maybe.

I wonder if he really doesn't want it or if he needs the funds? You could gift it to him for his birthday or maybe Christmas. Test it by having him take a look at yours when you get it. If his eyes light up, you'll know.:)

That will be important if they want to sell more Star Trek Diecast ships. Learning from our mistakes is more important than the mistake.

Speaking for myself, I made the rational decision to cancel because of the weak and unpredictable connection of an 8 lb. saucer, held in place by a single screw, AND an unstable base. I simply didn't want to invest $600 in a collectible that I would have to worry about. I didn't want to cancel, but I simply didn't want to add another headache to my life.
I'm sure that, like other known replicas of famous spaceships, this one will suffer known problems after a few years.
I can, already, see the threads: "How do I replace the lighting on the nacelle?" My saucer is leaning forward and the screw is showing signs of fatigue", "The plastic base is cracked and I cannot put that model on it anymore":(

Almost everything takes on some type of wear after awhile. This one should weather the passage of time ok. Lighting can be replaced.

I doubt they will ever go down this road again.

REALLY???
