Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

Quick question . . . is the saucer section pole absolutely necessary or can it support itself without it?

This is the problem with cross posting across three different forums. As I thought I had answered this query before.

Keep in mind that the saucer strut is made of said strut that runs at an angle and an addition pole that runs vertically.


I don't know anything about weight tolerances, but I honestly wouldn't trust that the two plastic pegs on the translucent strut that insert into secondary hull will hold the significant weight of the entire ship.

Though there is a single screw/bolt that connects the two, but it's my guess it'll be too front heavy and lean down over time without at least a support pole under the saucer section. But unfortunately, the current pole connects to that obnoxious looking saucer strut, which cups the saucer in place.

I feel like if we can get a different stand for this, it will be 98% of the way perfect. The price of MR’s is crazy now. For $600 this is an almost perfect alternative.

I bought more than one of these, but I'm concerned about trying to sell one. If all I get back in selling it is what I bought it for, I'd be better off canceling. Also, I don't know the best way to go about selling one if I did. Had Tomy delivered on their promises, I'm sure I would have had no problem reselling. But as the project turned out, it now seems like a giant PITA to me. Who really wants to pay more than $600 for an Enterprise that doesn't represent the filming side of the model? Suggestions anyone?

I never really appreciated TOS, like many others here and elsewhere. As my Trek began with TNG. Honestly I was hoping if this did well enough, they would also produce a Galaxy class Enterprise. Now the chances of that are pretty much nil, and no way am I going to pay the $17,000 that Factory Entertainment are asking for theirs.

I feel like if we can get a different stand for this, it will be 98% of the way perfect. The price of MR’s is crazy now. For $600 this is an almost perfect alternative.

A few 3d printed parts and one acrylic rod is all you'd need.

Geez, the pictures are making me rethink keeping mine on order. The paint job just looks - bad. And the stand is kind of killing me too. I don't have a huge problem with the screw covers. Since I have the Master Replicas this one will just not compare. Yeah, I know it's diecast metal and all that but I feel like too many sacrifices were made.

The paint is going to look bad in certain photos and angles. If you look at Phoenix's pics there are certain angles it looks fine. The color looks correct to me. Phoenix will have to tell us how the paint looks to the naked eye.

Looking at mine again, I think the colour, for me, looks correct. I agree with what others have said about the weathering pattern being too uniform on the saucer, and I definitely think they should have either put the covers on the other side or moved the stands to the cover side, but, having said all that, going back to it over the last few days, it continues to grow on me. It's definitely not perfect and not what was promised, so I completely understand the annoyance, but honestly at the price point, I'm really happy with it and I'd love for them to do the D at the same price/quality level.

Well this is disappointing. I'm still going through on my order. 600 bucks isn't a ton of money for a imperfect replica. I just hope it isn't as bad as they say.

But I guess no movie replica is perfect. I can't name one in my collection. They're all great but they aren't perfect for sure.

Well it's only similar to the Diamond select in that it has Seams and Plugs. Besides those two things it's closer to the Master replicas version.

That said if they had done it in Styrene I bet it would have looked just as good as MR. They wanted to do something bold and make it diecast because it's never been done in the 1/350 scale before. For $600 and the nice detail of the shuttle bay/bridge etc....I'm just gonna live with it and sell the one my brother doesn't want anymore. It's not like I'm gonna stick my face up to it every minute of the day.

Again the Polar Lights pre-build was styrene and almost as much at a full metal. No seams of course but it's weathering affect was no better then what we see on this one and collectors have gotten past it and want that one now. So I have zero worries about moving one of these....

It's just not worth worrying about or taking the thing apart, stripping it and hoping a filler and new paint job will make it look perfect. I'm sure there will be those that try and be successful but I'm not going to bother.

As bad as who says? There’s only two of us here who have got it in hand on this and other forums, and we’re both keeping ours.

But the photos are fairly representative of what it looks like in hand. Though everything always looks better in person as your able to fully appreciate the size and feel of the piece.

However, I didn’t take them in the best lighting and I used my old phone camera too. As I’m not an affionado, I’ll let others critique its many discrepancies.

No real reason you should know. On Star Trek there was never an indication the ship had a good or bad side. It was supposed to be a ship. If you are making a model with a good and bad side, you are replicating a prop rather than the idea of the Enterprise as a vessel.

From what we saw on screen there wasn't a good and bad side. There is often a huge difference between the idea a film/show is trying to convey, what can actually be visually recognized on screen and what the prop actually looked like in person.

Personally, I'm not interested in good/ bad side, I want to see a ship.

Unfortunately that’s not really possible for me. I’m something of a hoarder of collectables (primarily Marvel and DC, and I’ve been getting quite a few silicone busts from Queen Studios etc), so I don’t have a good place or equipment to film anything even half decent.

That looks great- but are you sure you're happy with that thin little rod holding it up?
Wouldn't you much prefer an ostentatious base that can also obscure part of the ship?

I'm not ragging on anyone that is happy/fine with it. And I still don't think the $600 shipped is a bad price at all for it, despite it falling short of the promises.
I'm just still trying to wrap my head around some of the clunky design choices they made.
