Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

Yes, the original Enterprise did have some windows on and others off, and those specific windows are also unlit on the original filming model:

Of course some liberties were taken to finish the "unfinished" side, but where detail already existed, it seems they did try to match it.
That's exactly why they should have taken the liberty of putting the screw covers on the port side!

At least they finally acknowledge it. "somewhat visible" LOL

Although I had already done so through the website, I went ahead and sent a request via the address provided in the update.

I hear ya, folks, about maybe profiting from resale, but I'd rather not be bothered.
Somewhat visible ? My response including the language to Tomy canceling my two orders

Indeed, a choice so clear and obvious that I continue to be absolutely baffled that they chose the opposite, and that nobody internally subsequently challenged it before production began.

...or at the very least, not obscure the only clean side of this model with their own stand. gosh, how easily avoided this could have been...

Wouldn't at least a partial refund be in order for those keeping the ship? I guess Tomy figures they could just dump the cancellations easy enough and get their money (or more).

I'm on the fence. If they hadn't made it damn near impossible to display the "clean" side of the ship (even though it's the wrong clean side - aargh), I'd probably keep it. Now? Not sure - at all...

I'm also thinking the Back to the Future car is gonna be borked too...

I'm wondering how much of a hit Tomy is going to take on this project. Seems to me it won't take a great number of cancelations to put them in the red on this one!

The problem is, they baked a "bad side" into this by going die-cast, and then to compound that they designed a base that works to obscure the "good side" that was left.
You are absolutely correct! I just saying I don't necessary care which side of the filming model was bad since that wasn't shown in the show.

The instructions show the stand for both modes.

Could we print a reverse base of the stand and switch clear post parts to other side. Would it still fit the underside of the saucer? It wouldn't be pretty, but it would remove the visual obstruction from the nice side of the model.

Do the windows circled in red not light up by design?

I was on a work call for the past 40 minutes so I wasn’t able to answer all the queries coming in. Thanks Pebble for picking up the slack.

Anyway, with regards to the unlit widows, there are quite a few all over the ship. BUT, they’re not actually windows for any LED’s. I had to double check when I noticed it the next day, but they’re actually painted grey windows.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they already are in the red, even before any cancellations and returns.

Just for your reference:

And keep in mind that these instructions were finalised I believe with their March 16 2023 update!

I can't imagine they could have made a profit off of $1.7M in sales. They had to do all the research, pre-production, tooling, production, paid a license fee and finally shipped these enormous, heavy boxes. And this is a market of very picky customers. But then again TOMY did fund it on money we already paid.

Luckily, for me, I didn't back the BTTF. I was very much looking forward to the refit Enterprise. I definitely WON'T be backing that now, though after this I doubt they'll be doing anymore Star Trek in the future. The more I think about this, the more I'm convinced I should cancel my order. It's almost laughable that they thought we would be happy with the finished product as is. I wonder if Paramount was aware of the screw holes when the approved it? Looks like I'm going to struggle with this decision for a few days. Be interesting to know if Chris is loosing any sleep these days!

Yes, and how much of that $1.7M in sales will be left after all the refunds?

For me.

Happy, probably not.

Satisfied, probably. As price-wise the production piece is a pretty good piece.

If not for their unrealistic promises.

I'm on the fence.

Not putting the screw holes/plugs on the other side of the ship that's partially obscured by the stand is total incompetence...

They should at least give us a stand, so we can display the "clean" side at least...Better yet one that was adaptable to both sides.

So dumb.

That would’ve been nice.

If their originally target was 5000 backers, it’s amazing they were able to produce anything with slightly less than 60% of their original target (dollar wise at least).

Geez, the pictures are making me rethink keeping mine on order. The paint job just looks - bad. And the stand is kind of killing me too. I don't have a huge problem with the screw covers. Since I have the Master Replicas this one will just not compare. Yeah, I know it's diecast metal and all that but I feel like too many sacrifices were made.

The Unibtainium Enterprise…

Is that the one whose nacelles were known as the “saggy bottom bottom boys”?

Yeah this one isn’t going to melt before anyone’s eyes, and everyone who ordered will get one and not get their money stolen.
