Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

If they had reversed the stand Ill bet almost no one would have cancelled, practically speaking you just need one good side to display, this model has none.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Many who are solely relying on youtube videos and official correspondance have already said they will/have cancelled a couple days back, and at the time (some still) they barely knew anything about the issues regarding the bases, as they haven’t been highlighted much in those sources as they’re pretty behind the forums.

I agree. I may just not use the saucer stand and see how that bolt does

Well you have it. To do all over would you cancel with the product you got?

Looks like a million bucks in that low light with the lights on! Now I'm starting to get back to excited to get it. I'm thinking of figuring out a way to suspend mine somewhere.. or wall mount.
It definitely looks better in low light. It would be interesting if there was a way to suspend it. I'm sure there will be some aftermarket products to replace that crazy stand at some point. Once the ship can be displayed with the good side (port side) unobstructed, it will be a bit better. Sadly the saucer dome underneath is obstructed to provide support. That too is somewhat dissatisfied. Oh well.

I'd been considering canceling mine for the last few days after first seeing photos of the screw plugs and idiotic stand, but having now watched these videos of it all lit up I'm definitely keeping it. It's fantastic for the price, and the paint job, while not perfect, is good for a mass-produced model. Had it been two or more times as expensive I'd be far less forgiving, but when Factory Entertaining is charging $15,000 for a Refit, suddenly this one looks like incredible value.

I'm confident that there will be a way to either strengthen the neck joint (in hindsight I really wish that separation had not been a feature, because it has undermined the integrity of the entire model) or create an alternative stand that supports the saucer in a less obnoxious way.

In fact, I'm sort of tempted to contact Tomy and see if I can order a second one from the group of canceled orders to tinker with.

(That FE model is insanely overpriced. It looks great, obviously, but not 15K great. For that price, I'd expect perfection, and there are loads of tiny problems with it.)

Here is a much more unobtrusive and elegant design for the stand they could have used. Make that clear plastic piece out of steel with a steel base and boom - 1000% better.

I'm getting really stoked. I think the bang for the buck is tremendous with this piece.

I gave thought to a wooden wall mount that had two vertical pieces of thick plexiglass, maybe 1/2" thick extending out to cradle the nacelles and also the saucer at a balance point. Maybe taper the plexiglass as it comes out, does that make sense? Of course the plexiglass would have to anchored like a muther in the wood somehow, maybe pinned, and put felt on top to not mar the finish. And of course the would would have to be anchored into the wall studs but I think it could be done.

I will never display the saucer separately from the secondary hull so I'd like to eliminate the saucer support and base completely.

Does anyone know if the saucer-to-secondary hull joint/connection can be strengthened or reinforced with another screw without using epoxy glue?

What about turning the ship portside and running some clear plastic rods into the front screw holes to hold the saucer up without obscuring the lower dome?
