Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

One thing is certain. Tomy is aware by now that many of their customers are concerned, some quite upset at the latest turn of events. The September update is likely to confirm matters for us, either for the better or the worse. I, for one, won't be purchasing any future projects if they don't get this one right!
Agreed. At least we can commiserate here. The vast majority of the 2500+ backers don’t appear to be engaged in the discussion. At least here or in the other usual forums.

Unfortunately, I'm not so sure these will be easy to sell, even at cost, because others might not be interested in buying these with visible screw covers on the filming side! It's the very reason at this point we might want to sell them.

Well there are many collectors that may not care about the screw plugs. Considering some of the more non accurate toys that are out there and people who want them for their collections. These being the biggest diecast version of the ship ever made is going to speak to a lot of collectors.

Yeah there's a different kind of collector than what we are here. I'm in a Master Replicas group and they are aghast that people like us repaint, for example, the studio-scale Y-Wing.

Listen, I have no dog in this race, but the whole thing seemed off to me from the start, somehow.

I personally plan on building my own 1/350 model, which is why I passed on this.

Best wishes to those who didn't.

I miss peak-era Master Replicas.
Yeah, it did seem off especially for the price point but when I saw they had a prototype I figured okay, they must've have crunched the numbers and thought it was feasible. Being a bigger company, they surely have a good idea of manufacturing cost.

I think the backer requirement being lowered without a corresponding increase in price was the first red flag.

I don’t think filling sanding and painting would be too much of a big deal for most here, plus decals at this scale are also readily available. If I see them getting dumped on the cheap (which I highly doubt) I’ll grab one to fix up. More than the screw holes,my worry would be the seems where two parts meet, like the pylons and saucer.

I suppose it boils down to three levels of collector:

1) The casual fans who just want a nice, big replica of the greatest spaceship of all time.

2) The hardcore fans who want the highest quality replica, with no compromises.

3) The hardcore fans who have skills, and are more than happy to repaint/modify a replica to match their tastes.

Tomy seems to be catering to group # 1. However, most folks around here are in group # 2. And it looks like a lot of people might now be forced into group # 3.

Probably next week, unless they're afraid to send one out. They're aware they opened a rat's nest with the last update.
Haha. They are indeed probably afraid. A YouTuber said he also emailed them and they got the same answer as the person who emailed from this forum. Unless it's the same person that's at least two people who were told what's in the pic is what we are getting.

I originally sent the request and got the original reply from Dan. e-mailed him a second time . No response !

I spoke to customer service yesterday. The CSR said they expect to be shipping them out by mid October.
I didn't ask anything about the issues people are concerned about, as I didn't expect she would know the full story, or be able to give it to me if she did.

Heck we may not even get that next update. Doesn't matter anyhow. We are stuck with whatever we get.

I heard back from customer service on my request to have my shipment delayed till November (on the road for work all of October).
She said they can do it, and have me down for November now.

Bummed about the likely state of affairs with the fit and finish of this thing. But happy that one less aggravation is now out of the way.
Also happy that they followed up without me having to pester them for an answer multiple times.

That's cool you got that straightened out. A company that cannot answer emails in a timely fashion is a red flag. Hopefully they don't botch up your November delivery.
