Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

I’m trying to picture the massive support stand necessary for a heavy, gigantic, die cast replica of Enterprise D’s saucer section and how they would keep the less massive engineering hull from flipping off of the main stand due to the massively front heavy model.

All I can think is a pretty heavy base and metal mounting rod that would have to go deep into the engineering hull up into the neck. IF they want saucer sep feature again that saucer has to be screwed down solid.

Voted for the D — had to, sorry guys. Grew up watching TNG and have always loved that thing and its weird janky shape. I'd happily buy it or Reliant, but while the D7 is probably my favourite non-Federation Trek ship, I'll be a little disappointed if it wins over the other two. Would probably still get it anyway because it is super cool.

I've no idea how they'd make the D work in die cast because it's even more front heavy than the Constitution class.

It would be interesting what features a D7 would come with. The studio model was not lighted, we never saw shuttlecraft. I suppose they might follow the remastered lighting and give us some imagined hanger bay. Front primary hull pod sep! LOL it’s escape capsule-like with those protruding winglets. I think that may have been the intention.

Makes no difference to me, as I'd never buy one of these toys, but I've come around on the design of the D, used to hate it, but grew to appreciate the design more and more over the years. There is a word - "kludge", that I first heard of when reading the novelization of The Search for Spock back in '84 - it was used to describe Mr. Scott's feelings about the Excelsior, and it also serves to describe my feelings about most Starship designs that followed right up to present day (excepting the D and perhaps the Defiant).

I am not trying to be a jerk, but since you regard these as toys you would never buy, why are you wasting precious life minutes in the thread?

It's not like I follow threads I have no interest in and then pop in and say, "hey I have no interest in this."

I bought all of these TOMY toys (2 of the first one) and I'm quite pleased with myself about it.

These Toys Forum would actually be a better name for this place than Replica Prop Forum... sort of the whole point around here.

Guess I'm here out of morbid curiosity, same reason people can't look away from a train wreck. Boredom too?

Actually I am genuinely interested in seeing how the refit turns out, even if I wouldn't buy one. It is a design I appreciate.

View from my desk. Makes for a happy workday.

Train wreck? What is a train wreck? How is TOMY or this thread a train wreck?

Sorry meant that only in the sense of my not being able to ignore this thread when I see it keep coming ”back to the top”. I don’t think it’s inaccurate to call it a toy and I’m not buying one but I’m not trying to discourage anyone either. I chimed it today to offer my opinion on starship design and if I could go back I would have limited my comment to that.

Has anyone here made a mold of the TOMY TOS planetary sensor cap?

I terribly scared I will break it at some point and the only replacement option I know of would be casing another one.

OK. But to be fair....and not to insult anyone either....but all the things we covet on this forum are basically toys. So when you're referring to the TOMY enterprise as a toy it would be inaccurate to refer to their production as a toy when like I said everything we love on this thread is basically a toy...toys for boys.

As my girlfriend says "you guys just love your toys" and yeah we do...we love our toys.

Yes we do, and if she ever has a problem with her,....dump her.
