Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

I think $600 for the diecast is more my speed. I could never justify that much to the wife.
I could never justify that price to myself. 8 grand is just a tad bit crazy for the MRE.

Wonder if it will sell. There was another on sale for 12 grand. If someone pays that they definitely have monies to burn.

If I had the spare cash I would get this:

I would just set it up in the garage and charge admission.

Actually that's what I SHOULD have said LOL!!

Sigh. My car broke down again. Mechanics rob me like the dickens.

Congratulations on achieving their goal. It takes about a mil’ for Round 2 to have tooling for plastic models…same here?

Since the production is a done deal, now we get to focus on some of the details. :)

I know a few people (including myself) who are not fond of the enormous size of the base. Obviously its size is necessary because of the need for a second base for the detached saucer. But I bet many people (again, including myself) will never detach the saucer, so the size is overkill.

That said, I notice that the smaller base seems to be able to handle the weight and balance of the entire ship (meaning the outer section doesn't seem to be used for any support purposes for the overall ship). So I will probably be using just that single base for display purposes. I doubt we'll be able to convince TOMY to add an additional base for those of us who just want to display the entire ship. But *maybe* some enterprising aftermarket producer will do the job instead - and make it in the shape of the TOS insignia to boot.

I do wish we could have a single pole and simple base. Mirrored would be awesome.

I personally don't like decorative or Diorama bases as they distract from the model, but that is just me.

The base does suck as far as I am concerned and I don't care about the saucer separation as that is never featured in TOS unless I forgot it.

Just my opinion. Still very excited, especially for a possible refit!!!

This was posted on Facebook:

In spite of the use of the transporter, the saucer separation feature for the ship remained. It appears as early as the first Star Trek Writer’s Guide from August 30, 1966 where Roddenberry writes: “What about the ship’s main saucer-like section? This is the portion of the ship in which we will be and which we will use most. It contains at the very top the ship’s bridge and general operation facilities. This “saucer” is approximately twenty stories thick at its widest spot, containing also primary ship’s departments, living accommodations, recreational facilities, laboratories, and is in fact a completely self-sustaining unit which can detach itself from the galaxy drive units and operate on atomic impulse power for short-range solar system exploration. We have a model of the vessel and can discuss any specifics about the vessel which are important as story points.”

In the original television series, saucer separation is also hinted at in several episodes. In the episode “The Apple,” Kirk considered a plan to have Mr. Scott discard the nacelles and escape with the main section of the ship (assumed to be the saucer) when the Enterprise was threatened by Vaal at Gamma Trianguli VI. The separation was never ordered. In addition during the episode “The Savage Curtain” Kirk attempted to order Mr. Scott to disengage the ship’s nacelles and jettison them if possible while the Enterprise was in orbit around Excalbia but the transmission was cut-off before the order was received.

The seperation thing is probably something I'll check once and never fuss with again. I do hope that the model can be self powered at least briefly, they showed 9 volt batteries in both sections right? or even an extension cord as I would like to be able to handle it while up and running. I never tried that with the MR, I suppose I could have made a long cord with the correct plug.

I for one would like to see the chillers lit or at least have an option for the chillers lit…off and on switch.

I’ve got a 1/350 enterprise PL with the chillers lit and it looks pretty awesome, which is in keeping with the refit.

Man I know we just got over this campaign but I so can’t wait for the TOMY to make a REFIT…oh and if the can do a Klingon battle cruiser that would be awesome as well…oh so awesome!

A lot of people are buying multiples. I think there will be quite a few for secondary sale when this delivers.

I think we are up to 2803 Enterprises ordered so far.

Excuse me, 'chiller'? Is that what the bits along the sides of the nacelles facing each other are called? Just when you think you know everything....
