Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

For those unhappy about the TOMY screw holes and the $599 price tag, this fine Unobtanium Enterprise is currently available on eBay for just $2700 (along with an additional $160 shipping)……….. but NO screw holes! Haha. Yeah the guy that posted that thinks he has a rare piece of collectable history. He doesn't realize there are better examples of the Uno out there and no one wants them. Looks like a cat pissed and threw up all over the thing....lol

I like that he stated that it’s been professionally “weathered”. lol

Never say never. Maybe there was a mistake made with these as well. Maybe over time the paint will become brittle and fall off? But at least we know the "resin" the ship is made of isn't going to fall apart. I suspect these TOMYs will be around a long, long time. Meanwhile the ones sold on Ebay just yesterday went for 1300, 1425, 1150 and a "best offer" - but only the $1150 seller used the real pictures...

I wouldn't pay $599 for that! Whoever pays $2700 for that deserves to get ripped off!

My TOMY Pocket cars still have their paint after 47 years.

It’s just my preference to match the studio model, and that is actually the pilot bridge which is taller than what we saw Kirk commanding. One could argue the pilot version was replaced by starfleet to one that was opaque. I considered that just a location establishing shot myself. Not an actual clear dome. But again just my preference and personal interpretation.
The studio model never had open bay doors either but they gave us the option to close them.
Treadwell

They show a clear bridge dome on film. My interpretation is just because it wasn’t shown again doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. I for one won’t second guess what the writers “really meant” (just an establishment shot).

Yeah. Let's not joke too much. Karma you know...as I previously said the paint is easily marked on these. Its matte paint and it will eventually get marked up a bit. Chipping is a concern as well. Touch up paint would have been a big plus with these.

They don't show a dome at all. It's a "cutaway", like in aircraft diagrams.
Like in a show or movie where the camera dollys from room to another and you see the edge of the wall pass by. There isn't "really" a gap in the wall.

Now, if someone enjoys having that feature in their model, then by all means!

Just a question . Why do you think the paint will get marked up eventually ?

Because its a matte paint. It's not a smooth shiny slick surface. Take you finger nail and rub it gently in a spot you will never see. I bet it leaves a little mark. Also look at your saucer from all angles in light. You are bound to see a tiny blemish or two.

Do you plan on handling it ?

I haven't put it together yet. But I checked it out. So yeah I had to hold it. One tiny chip on the nacelle which I posted here a few pages back. Thats how I know the paint is thin. (Zoom in on the photo) No other major marks or blemishes that would show up on a camera. Maybe a tiny slight scuff or two that are only noticable under a light and looked at from certain angles.
