Diamond Select Star Trek Tricorder

Finally ordered a medical. I have an MR so don't need a science. What I really want it the scanner! Got it for $42.00 shipped on eBay. Since I have it coming, may as well put some metal to it. What i really want is the scanner. :lol

But... :unsure ummm... the medical scanner is a huge disappointment. I'm sure you already know, there's no motor and the sound sucks. So what do you want it for?

Upgrades!

If you have some ideas, please share. I am looking to upgrade my medcal scanner and even got another medical tricorder to possibly update the second one. I am attempting to try Stapleton13's methods. Just trying to see if I can get the machined aluminum disks for the top and bottom. I have everything else.

After trying to track it down the UPS delivery in my office for the last three hours, I have finally just opened my TOS Classic Science Tricorder. Scratches, paint smears, bubbles in the window photo, something rattles in the hand-held, but I LOVE IT!

I have been waiting forty years for this baby.

Mine just arrived, and I must have won the lottery. All the silver paint looks good, everything's tight, and works fine. The sound effects are a little high pitched though. The voice clips aren't too big of a deal to me, but the scanning sound was also affected, which is too bad.

I hate the graphic on the science tricorder screen, but the amount of difusion of the LED's seems better than the medical. It's still getting a coat of gray paint, though. ;)

Mine arrives tomorrow after a year since the order went in. I can't wait to come home from work and start scanning my house for anomolies. I will be sure to post pictures (the ones that don't stick together)

I got mine yesterday. First thoughts.....better than my Medical one. The voice is MUCH better than my chipmunk McCoy voice in the Medical, and the scanner functions closer to what it should be from a prop perspective.

It also feels a little more solid than the medical version, however I bet it changes from Tricorder to Tricorder. Not bad for $40. You can't even get a blinkie light circuit for that!

It finally arrived and in perfect shape. No problems with paint or electronics.

I now have the whole collection: Phasor, Com, Tric, and ship. I am now ready for my away mission:

The ship is a little small for an away mission don't you think?

(Sorry I just had to ;) ).

I picked up a Science last week at a local comic shop- I paid through the nose, but my local Toys R Us doesn't carry the TOS Star Trek line.

I like it, but I think I'll be gving the screen a repaint as other have here.

Received my science tricorder today, a year after pre-ordering it.

As so many others have reported, mine also came with numerous paint flaws and errant blobs of glue. And the "alternative" science scanner is HORRIBLE - the medical one looks so much better. The whole thing seems like it was rushed through assembly very sloppily. I will send mine back, and hope for one in better condition. I guess after a year of waiting, a couple more weeks won't make much difference.

I ordered both models and they arrived yesterday. I have to say that they were quite disappointing. While these can look decent in pics, in person all the poor assembly work makes them look crappy. The face plate on my science tric isn't assembled correctly and sits in the hood at an angle so it barely closes. There are big paint and glue smudges all over and there's a big ridge in the screen decal. The medical tric fared better but just barely. There's a huge paint smear across the silver crossbar and the sounds are sped up. I know it's not as expensive as the MR but I spent $80 on these! That's not exactly cheap. I know they're toys but so were the phasers and communicators from AA and those didn't have these issues - at least mine didn't.

I'm now wondering if I should cancel my TWOK phaser preorder. If AA's quality control is this poor I don't know what to expect especially when ordering online. To their credit, I complained on one of their YouTube vids and was contacted by DST about arranging a return.

I've done a good bit of work with the Chinese so I know how hard it can be to get quality work out of factories over there. They have to plop a QC agent on site to fix this kind of problem. It really is the only way. until they do that, their products will be hit and miss.

The amount of variability we are seeing in these is impressive. My Med Trics were just fine-no splotches, misfitting parts, etc.. My Sci Trics arrive tomorrow, so I am eager to see what shows up.

I just picked mine up at TRU and I'm realy pleased with it. The only complaint is on the scanner. The rubber grip is a little loose, it almost seems a tiny bit larger in diameter than the plastic scanner.

All in all it's great, I too can't wait for the Geo. Tricorder.
