Diamond Select Star Trek Tricorder

Just got mine, very damn cool! It has a nice big paint splotch at the top of the upper door but other than that it is very clean. The splotch should be easy enough to remedy, I'm really lovin' the features this thing has. And to think I was going to skip this one. :lol

This Monday's episode of The Big Bang Theory is "Codpiece Topology," where Sheldon attends a Renaissance Fair dressed as Spock and carrying a tricorder. This occurs in the last scene in the episode. Diamond Select Toys supplied its tricorder toy prototype for this scene. Airs Monday, July 13th at 9:30pm EDT on CBS.

I love mine, but am I correct that you cannot turn the top more than 90 degrees? I don't want to try and turn it past that, but I would like it to be angled up a little more.

No, there is a catch built into it that stops it at 90 deg. But it can be modified to open further, which requires repositioning the switch.

I received my Medical Tricorder and I love it. The moire maybe is spinning too loud but McCoy's voice is perfect. :)

DST addressed the geological tricorder in their blog:

"DSTChuck: We are still finishing tooling all the new parts for the Geo Tricorder and looking for a partner but I thin even if we do not find a partner you will see that item in stores spring 2010. The medical version is NOT sold out but if it does sell out we’ll look into making more – for sure. We think items in this line should always be in stock – or in stock as often as we can .."

They also addressed the non-motorized, manual spinner in the medical scanner again:

"As for the scanner as we added play features to the tricorder and cost and testing fee’s kept rising we were just not comfortable pushing the retail for a toy past 50.00. Keeping in mind it’s a toy not a replica something had to be sacrificed, some might argue we made the wrong call – if we did blame me…if I let DSTRobert make the call I think these things might even be able to detect alien life, but that’s just not something I can do. I hope overall your happy with what it is and not too disappointed in what it is not."

I'm still lovin' my science tricorder!

I posted a brief complaint about the problems I had with my two trics on the DST vid on YouTube and Matt actually contacted me and offered a replacement for the Science Tric. I contacted their customer service department and the replacement arrived yesterday. The sad thing is the new one has scratches all over the silver crossbar and chipmunk voice samples. You'd think they'd at least look at the damn thing before shipping it to me considering it's a replacement. Oh well. They sorta tried. Kudos for them not asking me to pack up the original one and ship it back to them. One of the neighbor's kids has it now and he loves it. :)

I see Entertainment Earth is taking pre-orders for the Geological Tricorder. Expected Delivery is May 2010.

It would have been fine with me if the med and science versions didn't talk- but if a tricorder is going to speak, the geo is a huge improvement:

This Tricorder includes 6 electronic phrases from the Enterprise's computer systems that you won't find anywhere else! They include:
"Working"
"Standingy by"
"Computer Affirmative"
"Computer Data Received"
Library Computer sounds
"Computer Accomplished"

Re: Diamond Select Tricorder - geological tricorder

A new prototype photo of the DST TOS geological tricorder has been released. Looks great! Features the voice of The First Lady of Star Trek, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, as the ship's computer. Includes lights, sounds, and an exclusive removable scanner with motion effects.

NEW INFO: Comes complete with two ore sample containers and a planetary ore specimen!

This is a shared exclusive and is available at newforcecomics.com and entertainmentearth.com. Tentative for release July 2010.

I can see it now: Local nerd arrested at airport for carrying two vials of unknown blue and pink substance. He was heard to have ssaid:"But I am on my way to Galactic con..."

That's why REAL nerds take the train. You could board an Amtrak with a TOS Phaser and a lightsaber on your belt, carrying John Hammond's cane, and buzzing around with a Sonic Screwdriver and the most harassment you'll get is an under-the-breath "nerd" from the conductor (at worst - most of the time I find they just ask where you're going and respond with 'Sounds Fun!').

Amtrak: Travel for Nerds!
