Diamond Select Star Trek Tricorder

I pre-ordered both the Med and Science from Entertainment Earth. Because I thought these would be cool I ordered two of each. One for play and one to stash away. Long story short, a couple days ago I received 4 of the Meds. When I called EE the customer rep told me that the Science version had been drop so they would not be offering it. (I guess they decided just to fill my Science order with 2 additional Meds.) What the Rep couldn’t tell me was if it was just Entertainment Earth that wasn’t going to have the Science versions available, or if they had been dropped completely by Diamond Select. Has anyone else heard anything about them?

I've heard Entertainment Earth decided to only offer their "exclusive medical version" and not to carry the Science version, but that other retailers will. Check with New Force Comics; that's where I have my Science version on order. DST has been showing progress updates on the science version, so I doubt they cancelled it. I hope EE refunds your shipping if you return those 2. I've emailed New Force about it- I'll let you know what they say.

THE SCIENCE TRICORDER WILL BE SHIPPING IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS ACCORDING TO NEW FORCE. Here is what New Force has to say about it a few minutes ago:
hi
the medical tricoder is a EE exclusive, DST only shipped to them and no other retailer...however, folks like us, ordered from EE and we got our shipment from EE Monday and are shipping them out now...

the reg science tricorder should arrive in about 2 weeks... DST could not have made the mecical one, without first making the science, so there is no basis for that rumor...just that EE shipped theirs in faster

I ordered mine from bigbadtoystore.com, and my account say "preorder 2009" and nothing else.

There is no indication as to whether it is a science or medical tricorder, unless "DMC" stands for Dr McCoy?

ST:TOS Tricorder
Product #: DMC10924

Ok, I justs received my tricorders this morning, and I really like them. For a 40.00 toy, the product is worth it. The only downside is the screen and the light. It's very hard to see and definitely needs an upgrade. But, overall it was worth the 40.00 spent. :)

For good or bad, I just placed my order with New Force for the Science Tricorder.
I have wanted this bad boy since 1967. Now, it shall be mine!

Thanks for the information. It's good to hear they weren't dropped. :thumbsup Guess I'll be placing an order with New Force later today.

According to the EE rep they will credit the shipping as well.. We'll see how the card statement looks at the end of the month.. :confused

Got my Medical Tric today. Pretty darn good for $40. Been a long wait.

Strap could be longer. And my screen is crooked, as well as the red stripe on the scanner.

Got my med one. It's just ok. I am a fan of these toys since I wear costumes and they are good cheap alternatives to carrying a prop worth too much money. But I have to say that this is just "ok". The light is really bad. It doesn't even light up the screen, just one corner, and the voice!!! DAMN, it's awful. It sounds NOTHING like McCoy. They raised the pitch or something and its just down right bad. And the scanner accessory is really cheap feeling and there is no way to keep the button pushed to hear it and try to push that very difficult tight wheel to make it rotate. Worth 40 bucks...not so sure, maybe like 25-30. IMO

Instructions are just like those annoying tie downs that hold down the toy/prop. Something that they add to the package for an annoyance factor. ;)

I still say for $40.00 it ROCKS! Fun to mess with and a few upgrades ar quick and simple!! and I am not concerned about the voice anyway....the othere effects are cool and my screen will soon be grey!:love

Rather than a gray screen. A small bit of EL sheet would light the screen nicely.

My scanner sound is barely audible. Low batteries? or is there a Demo mode for it too?

It seems like everyone's scanner is way quiet... It might be batteries, but I'd bet DST simply got a less than adequate speaker since it was probably a rush job switching the production from a motor to a speaker.

I read someone had already replaced the speaker in their scanner...TOSPhaser maybe?

I cracked my scanner open the other night, and part of the problem is the speaker is set between the battery compartment and the gearing for the head in the center of the scanner. It's marginally louder if you listen to the speaker directly, rather than hearing it through the tiny holes in the bottom. If there were a way/location to anchor it where it could resonate properly, I bet it would help things a lot.

So does anyone have the science on yet? I keep seeing pics of the McCoy hand scanner, and all the talk about it, but I am yet to see a pic of the scanner that comes with the science one.

When I found out about these, I was disappointed that I probably wouldn't be able to order a Medical one, since I could only find them for pre-order at EE,. (They only take credit cards, and I don't have one) But after reading the reviews, I'm not so disappointed, I think the science one will be more up my ally anyway.

Yes! I just did away with the gears to make it spin and added a larger speaker.....much better!
