Diamond Select Star Trek Tricorder

Well, My excitement was premature. I hadn't opened it yet. The electronics SUCK!!!!! "He's dead Jim." Is all the damn thing does. 3 buttons, everyone one of them say the same thing. The screen flashes with McCoys voice, then shuts off. The medical scanner...cheesy as hell. Oh well. Hope someone makes upgrades for it.

You have it in demo mode, I did the same thing, jut open the battery compartment and flip the switch from demo to full working
Yes please!! It is like a psycho ward here...It's good, It's bad...It sucks, It Rocks, I hear voices!!! so what is it.....I guess I will wait to get mine and decide for my self how I like this $39.00 toy! :lol
OK, I got mine right here. The sounds are fun, the size and weight are very good. The different scanning sound effects and lights are great. The small medical scanner makes the noise but you have to spin the interior manually. My screen is only lit on one side, is anyone elses like that? The moire inside moves when scanning. All in all very cool and fun for the $!

Based on other photos posted, looks like all the screens are lit in the same manner, with the backlighting to one side. Thanks for posting the review and photo.

Got mine today. I agree with comments above...it looks GREAT for the price!
The instructions were clearly written before they changed the medical scanner. They say:
Typos and all, that's what it says. The first sentence has a line pointing to the medical scanner. The second sentence has a line pointing to (approximately) the button.
Someone should have edited this to say:
"Press the button to activate 'scanning' sound effect. Make the scanning head spin using the thumb wheel."
Also, it's no wonder that people can't figure out how to turn off demo mode! You have to open the lower compartment, pull off the battery cover and then flip a tiny switch. They should have put these instructions at the top:
"Your tricorder is shipped in DEMO mode, and will only play one sound effect. To switch to operational mode and have all features operate, open the battery compartment and move the switch to PLAY."
I'm sure everyone here already knows this, but I had to get that off my chest!

My screen is lit on one side as well. Since I switched from "DEMO" to "PLAY".... I"m happy with it overall.

Overall, these look great! I was never a huge fan of the TOS tric. (Heresey!) but after seeing the youtube vids I had to pre-order the science version; although I prefer the med tric, I knew they wouldn't make a motorized scanner, which for me is a clincher when we're talking trics and scanners. Oh well, maybe in another release or a two pack / repaint.

Would anyone that already has one mind posting exactly what batteries are needed for the tricorder and scanner? I'd like to be ready to change them out as soon as the tricorder arrives.

I pre-ordered both the Med and Science from Entertainment Earth. Because I thought these would be cool I ordered two of each. One for play and one to stash away. Long story short, a couple days ago I received 4 of the Meds. When I called EE the customer rep told me that the Science version had been drop so they would not be offering it. (I guess they decided just to fill my Science order with 2 additional Meds.) What the Rep couldn’t tell me was if it was just Entertainment Earth that wasn’t going to have the Science versions available, or if they had been dropped completely by Diamond Select. Has anyone else heard anything about them?

Would anyone that already has one mind posting exactly what batteries are needed for the tricorder and scanner? I'd like to be ready to change them out as soon as the tricorder arrives.
2 lr44 for the scanner, and 3 AAA's for the tricorder.
I got mine yesterday. I like it, and it looks like upgrading to metal parts wouldn't be that hard if someone wanted to. The thing I noticed. is that all the black plastic is seperate from the silver plastic. Even the clips that the side panels snap on with are seperate pieces.
