Dexter's Kill Bag and Tools

The Season 3 sharpener is made by Fenghua Knife and Cutlery Mfg.Co.Ltd. of China ( top-metal ).

Looks like Dex uses the 12 incher.

Hey guys. I modified my bag like it is in Seasons 4 and 5. I also notice that in Season 5 Episode 10 --when Dexter is cleaning his Kill Tools-- there is no velcro holding the bag together (pic 2), so I removed mine also. I also cut the flap off and cut the zipper along the edge of the bag off (pic 3).

(Thanks to Pitbull for the idea of coloring the logo yellow and darkening the blue line.)

Thanks for looking guys! Let me hear your thoughts.

ALSO, does anyone know anything about the green oversuit he wears and the sleeves?

Not that I wouldn't start one of these collections if I could afford to do so, but you're all gonna get some interesting questions if your local police ever show up with a search warrant. :lol

Naw, just keep em in the kitchen. Chef tools aren't against the law. :)

Hey guys, I got the older style Messermeister Bag off eBay delivered today. There are some differences in the new bags and older ones. Most noticeable is the logo and blue line.

First is a picture taken by Pitbull. This is the newer style of the bag and the bag that I have also in the second picture.

Here is a comparison of the two bags. The top bag' logo was colored yellow and I attempted to darken the blue line also. You can clearly see the differences here.

Some other differences I noticed is the quality of the older bag seems to be better. I'm not sure how to explain it, but the material makes it more comfortable to open and close. Compared to the older bags, the newer ones are "stiffer" and don't fold as easy as the old one does.
The handle is a little longer in the older bag, which would explain why it looked longer when Dexter carried it inside the cabin in Season 2. (When he was using Doake's prints to frame him with the Kill Tools.)
Also, the handle on the newer bags is centered more. The older bags handle is offset slightly to compensate the weight of the knives I guess.

The flap material is shiny and softer compared to the new bag. It folds over a lot easier then the new one did also. The pocket the cleaver is in is slightly smaller. In the newer bag, my cleaver was flopping around somewhat. The smaller pocket keeps the cleaver more secured. There is a 3/8" difference in size there.
Also, the pocket where the Shears are. In the new style bag, the shears would get in the way of folding the bag and make it awkward. This is no problem with the older style bag. I don't know if it's because of the softer material but the pocket layout seems to be the same, but I haven't measured it.

I have emailed a few websites that carry these bags looking for the older style. I have gotten these replies so far.

From NWcutlery:
Hello Tom,

I’m sorry we only have the newer model. White logo.

Thanks,
Donna

Hi Tom,

I can't remember when the changed the logo but I think it was 2 years ago. We have the new ones. I'll see if I can get new pictures from Messermeister.

Hi Tom,

I'm sorry, we don't have one in stock for me to check. You can place your order via our website and in the COMMENTS field indicate that you want the yellow one. If we get the white one we will call/email and ask how you'd like to proceed with the order.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Alexandra

At least now looking at the list, you know not to get one from there if you're looking for the older style bag. I really don't believe it makes a huge difference to complete the Kill Tools set though at all. Just something to bug us perfectionists who need to be 100%.

If anyone would like any additional pictures or comparisons, let me know.

Nothing yet. My mill was supposed to be in from back order last friday, but they pushed the delivery date back to april 8, so it'll be a bit longer.

I have a question about the American Apparel henley, American Apparel's website says it "will shrink an average of one size when put in the dryer" and I wanted to know if that is true? I normally wear a medium and want to know if I should buy a medium or large.

I am 5'11" 205 lbs, with a nice build (are you single?). I bought a Large and washed it in cold water and then put it in a delicate dry cycle and it fits me perfect. The sticker on the shirt said it will shrink about 8%.

do you normally wear large in t-shirt sizes as well?

Yes I always buy a Large. They usually fit me perfectly, not too baggy, not too tight. I like clothes that fit now at my age. I guess I can post a pic up of me in a Large Kill Shirt if you'd like. (no h0mo)

Hey guys, I MIGHT have found some shred of evidence the Small Bone Saw is a modified Satterlee one.
In Season 2 Episode 10- 19:31, there is a shot of the Kill Tools (Screencap would help here). It shows the same 2 Bonesaws in the shot. My guess is they modified one of them into the Small Bone Saw. Just a hunch but I believe it is.

Also in Season 2 Ep 10-24:56, Dexter frames Doakes and kicks the Kill Tools into the water. It is NOT the same Kill Bag. I think they bought a different bag just for that scene. I was personally wondering about that. Just some info I figured I'd throw out there.

Great progress guys... can't wait to see a finished kit. For any REALLY crazy people, I would like to see the storage trunk- false bottom and all.

I've been looking for the Trunk and Cargo pants. No luck though.

I don't even think the pants are Cargos. I only see a small pocket on the front left upper thigh area. The back pockets have no flap, just a "wood' button and a brownish/redish stripe down it. There is also stitching across the knee area.

Yeah, good luck with the pants. I've been looking for over a year now and have only found some "close enoughs". More info in this thread about the shirt (found), pants (?), boots (found), and watch (?):

http://www.therpf.com/f24/dexter-costume-72909/

And for anyone interested in replicating Dexter's I.D. laminate, there's this thread:

http://www.therpf.com/f40/dexter-74270/index2.html

The images I posted in the I.D. thread are out of date. I've since refined my version of Dexter's I.D. further; it's as close as it's gonna get until I/we can locate good, clear, large images of the Florida "seal" and Dexter's photo from the actual prop.

Also, the I.D. holder discussed in that thread are valid for Seasons 1-3; somewhere during Season 4 the holders are squared off on the top and bottom.
