Nice watch! You sure the seller realized it wasn't working or realized it was THE Dexter watch? :lol

So question. If someone has a gold version of this watch, is it possible for a jeweler who specilizes in watch servicing and repair to make the watch silver? along with the dial marks on the face? I know the hands would need to be changed as well but do you think this could be done? and dark passenger, is the face on yours slightly goldish? or is it completely silver with the rest of the watch?

Rbeato,

This watch was a cheap swiss watch in its day. Its HIGHLY unlikely any gold versions were made. But to answer your question, the case can be replicated into silver but why would you want to go to such high expense? Better to have it a basic case professionally plated in white gold if you just have to have that "look".

It was made in gold, the original one I found on eBay was gold and I had it plated silver by Ashland Investments, who I bought it from (and who took these pictures below. It's the same watch with a different band). This watch has been sold after I found my new one pictured in post 136.

Not sure if the dials can be plated silver or not, but it's worth looking into. The face on mine appears gold when light hits it a certain way, just like the one on Dexter. Sometimes the face lights up gold, sometimes it appears duller depending on how light hits it.

but basically your gold ones face is close to yours when certain light hits it? glad to know i can atleast have the main part of the watch plated, and i dont see why they couln't do th dials since they are gold covered as well. they would just need to pop the crystal off, and also replace the hands, which wouldnt be a big deal at all, would just need to keep the seconds hands because of the red arrow.
but thanks for those pics

also technically under the gold plating im guessing is steel, might be cheaper to have the gold taken off and the steel polished up would look the same im guessin.
And what does it mean 25 jewels? i see others (not this style watch) of the same brand that say 17, 100, etc....

Keep in mind that if you have the face chromed/plated you will lose the "Waltham Self Winding 25 Jewels" silk-screening on the face as well.

no the face i wont have touched as its the proper color. but the dials are gold tone just like the "frame" of the watch. just like you see in Darkpassengers pic of the after he had it plated in silver the dials were still gold?, so im sure a jeweler can take the crystal off and get the gold off the dials, then im sure they have hands to switch out the goldones, but still gotta keep the gold one that has the red arrow, but since thats gold maybe that can be plated.......heres to hoping. will find out more when the watch comes in.

I think the term your looking for is "goldfilled" not solid gold. No one in their right mind plates silver over solid gold so I'm assuming the watch is plated gold.

A dial can be "silvered" by any dial refinishing company...or made any color you want. Watch hands can be refinished too and/or changed to your specs but it isn't cheap $$.

Under the gold plating is not steel but usually a cheap "base metal" that wouldn't take a polish well plus you'd have to not only remove the plating but its underlining plate such as copper. If you have to insist on changing the metal color of the watch your best to look into having it replated.

Jewels in a watch are basically "bushings" and act as bearings for the pivots of the gear wheels that run the watch. Jewels are mostly for wear longevity but also used for a cosmetic look. They are usually made from rubies, agate or sapphires and have no gem value. 25 jewels is the number of "Jewel Bushings" used in the watch. Better quality watch movements are always jeweled movements.

Dials are not chromed. Most any dial refinishing company can add whatever lettering you want after refinishing the dial...including your "Watham Self Winding 25 jewels" lettering replaced to the exact fonts as the original.

Yes, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it was solid gold, just gold plated.

The face doesn't need to be colored, just the hands and dials on the gold Waltham watch. I think whatever the cost is, it's worth it to do because of the rarity and competition over scoring one.
