Dexter Season Six (SPOILERS)

The story involving Lois will have to carry over to season 7. I can't imagine them tying up those loose ends along with the main story arc in the finale.

I read there was a lot of tension on the set between Hall and Carpenter this season since the divorce, so I can see Deb maybe getting killed off eventually, but not now... Perhaps in season 7 by Louis??
Wonder what moniker Louis will be dubbed in season 7?! :love

This season wasn't that good IMO, except for the Louis intro. Travis is a bore. They should have kept Geller around as Travis' imaginary fiend. :lol
And I too think Trinity was the best by far.

Oh, btw...Love the Dexter coasters, and I like this shirt! :thumbsup

I just thought of this last night, if you seen the human centipede the doctor guy one there would be great on the 7th season!

It's even army green? That's perfect. Where can I purchase this?

Yeah, I've about given up on this show. As turn-your-brain-off entertainment, it's great. But the writing....it just doesn't make me care anymore. I think the show just ran too long.

There is often writing on this show where problems are quickly tied up, sometimes with little sense, just to get them done and over with.
I hope this does not happen in the finale.

with how the preview makes it look, it looks to be an amazing finale, my guess is still that dexter doesn't really m-99 himself to be able to get travis, at some points i haven't liked this season but all in all ive enjoyed it. don't think its overstayed its welcome yet, with arcs they have placed in this season, mainly Louis for the next should be interesting. I haven't thought of Travis as a bore, every season for the most part they have tackled an aspect of something dexter hasn't dealt with, and this season was religion and i think travis played the role good for what he is this season. he has done some nasty crime scenes, you gotta give him that much.

Well, here's the thing.

It's entertaining, still, in a casual way. I enjoyed this season's "Big Bad", especially Edward James Olmos. If you don't think too hard about it, it's just sort of casual fun.

But the show used to be WAY better than that. It showed real character development, it had tight writing, etc. In the last three seasons there have been plot points that were just abandoned, episodes that seemed just thrown in for no good reason, etc. Stuff that is made out to be important ends up being pointless, and so on and so forth.

My biggest complaint, though, is that Dexter never really seems to grow as a character. Or rather, he does throughout the course of each season, but then some moment in the episode hits the reset button and nothing really changes. He's the same guy he was before. That's where I'm saying the show is overstaying its welcome. The character, for me, is getting stale and has become a caricature. What I appreciated about the show originally was that it took this fantastical character (a serial killer who hunts other serial killers), and made him seem pretty realistic. We got to know what made him tick, and it seemed to fit.

But then that was it. We got to know him and, well, now you know him. We don't really get a lot of exploration of Dexter as a character anymore. Not in any way that seems to matter. This season it seemed like maybe that'd happen with him exploring faith, but then it was just "Nah. Never mind. He's the same ol' Dex." Deb, on the other hand, has become a REALLY interesting character and has grown a lot it seems. She retains her core, but has also changed in the course of this season more than any other character (in-between-season drastic retcons notwithstanding). I suppose Quinn changed a bunch, too. I still think he's a terrific actor and is being given some amazing material.

But Dexter himself? Same old guy. Nothing new to see here. So, basically, I've stopped looking for it. I watch it for the surface level entertainment of "How's he gonna kill this dude" but that's it. I don't take it seriously anymore, which has allowed me to enjoy it still, but I do recognize that the show has diminished in quality over the years.

with the next two seasons having to do with an arc from the season finale, i think we will see some character change in dexter. I wasn't too keen on season 3, it was Dexter trying to have a close friend which was deveopment with him only to realize he can't have friends. But I thouroughly enjoyed season 4, don't know how anyone couldn't. and liked season 5 as well, but was actually sad for Dexter when Lumen left him when he thought he found someone he could spend his life with. But the next two seaons will be good, it may end up being along the lines of season 2, maybe being hunted again, but definitely some one, a main character will find out his secret, i think it will be Dec, and ofcourse Louis

In terms of Dexter's growth, I think we saw growth in Season 1 and 2, and to a lesser extent in Season 4. In Seasons 3, 5, and 6 we've seen hints of it followed by hitting the reset button.

Season 5 seemed to have Dexter really coming to accept and even LIKE himself because Lumen cared for him and he finally found someone he could connect to....and then she bailed. Season 3 he thought he could connect to Miguel and then WHOOPS not so much. Season 6 introduced faith and Dexter's questioning whether he could truly reform himself....JUST KIDDING!! Well why freaking introduce this stuff if you're just going to undo it in one episode?! And really, what has he LEARNED from any of this?

You'd figure after Season 2, he'd isolate himself more or blend in more with his "cover" persona, but no, he tries to find a "buddy" in Season 3. Then, oops! We have to get rid of him, but wait -- he still hasn't learned because NOW he's looking for a TUTOR in the form of Trinity. Or at least as an exemplar for how to live a balanced life, except -- oops! Now part of your family is six feet under (see what I did there? ;)) In season 5 he goes back to this same "I need to find someone I can connect with" thing and....yoink! She leaves. Now in season 6 we have him maybe thinking he can reform himself, but, naaaah, never mind that. And then maybe he can reform Travis until -- sorry! -- he's actually just nuts.

In some cases, these things get introduced as a necessary factor in the season's story arc...but it never really seems to register for Dexter. He's the same guy the whole way through. And it's not that this stuff isn't entertaining (usually), it's just that it's LAZY. I mean, jeez, I've seen sitcoms with better character development than how they treat Dexter.

My complaints about other seasons were different. Mostly surrounding the worn-out plot point of "WILL HE GET CAUGHT?!" That's one thing I've LOVED about this season -- none of that crap going on. There's been zero danger of Dexter getting caught this season and I LIKE it that way mostly because the previous seasons went back to that well FAR too often and I no longer give a damn when they try that tactic. Other problems I had were with the introduction and then abrupt dropping of plot points. Remember the female cop Batista got involved with? How about the Santa Muerte stuff? And what about Deb digging into her past and finding out that Dexter's mom was her Dad's informant? That got dropped like a bad habit. Batista marrying Laguerta out of the blue -- and then the show retconning that between seasons too? That stuff was all filler. All of it. It served no purpose other than to take up time, and that, to me, is lazy writing. The show is -- or was at least -- capable of far, far better.

As for the next seasons, I don't know. I don't think I really care much, either. I mean, ok, he gets hunted by Louis and Deb finds out somewhere along the lines. More likely, they'll just do yet more of the "WILL HE GET CAUGHT?!" crap that I've grown tired of and I'll finally tune out altogether. Or, maybe it'll be fun -- like this season -- and I'll hang in just to see how he'll get out of this one.

But you know what? Dexter has become, for me, a lot like Star Trek or SG-1 -- it's a fun show that I really enjoy, but I don't take it seriously because the stakes are never really that high, and because the characters, while entertaining to watch, never really seem to change. I can still absolutely enjoy the show, but I can't take it that seriously.

The only characters I've REALLY liked this season are Deb and Quinn, mostly because of how they've changed on the show. But hey, who knows. Maybe that'll all be retconned by next season, too.

Well Dexter actually has changed this season, he didn't kill Jonah when the old Dexter would have, he let him go because he felt regret for what he did, he's growing as a character to be more of a father figure for Harrison which I like and that he told Harry, that he wants to be a better father to his son, so some growth there, when before be almost just bailed on him completely. would like it to end with dexter getting rid of the dark passenger and ending up with lumen since he would have no secrets he would have to hide from her, but that is a looooong shot. Debra has totally kicked ass this season as far as her character which will lead to her I think being ok with how Dexter is due to how close she holds him. 2 more nights, till Doomsday, funny at the beginning of the season before it aired we were counting down to "D-Day" and now at the end of this season the last episode really is about "Doomsday" just a lil funny to me how that worked out.
