Anyone else feeling a bit like it's losing the thunder? I like the season alright so far, but it's nowhere near the intensity of building end as Breaking Bad is turning out to be. There's only 3 more episodes left! I just don't feel like we're picking up speed and I feel a bit underwhelmed.
No season after the trinity killer season with Lithgow has ever been as good.
I don't watch
Breaking Bad so I can't make any direct comparisons, but, yeah, this final season seems to be running out of steam. That said, the producers and writers have two things working against them right now.
First, Lithgow's performance in season 4, and his interaction with Michael C. Hall, was lightning in a bottle, and I think most fans of the series consider that to be the best season. For a brief period of time I thought they were going to duplicate that to some degree with Ray Stevenson (as Isaak Sirko) in season 7 because his interaction with Hall was equally intriguing and full of energy, and it looked like Isaak and Dexter were moving towards what could have been a very interesting showdown. Instead, they killed off Isaak and that was that; a wasted opportunity in my opinion.
Second, it would be impossible for them to please every single
Dexter fan regardless of how they end the series. Some fans think he should die, some think he should live on as he is, some think he should somehow be rid of the Dark Passenger and live a happy life, and so on. One way or another,
someone's going to be dissatisfied.
