Dexter Season 4 - Trinity Killer Hammer

I did a search and didn't find anything.

Does anyone know the base for the hammer the Trinity killer used in Season 4? In the show, it's described as a "Grant 24 oz steel framing hammer, model 514" but I'm pretty sure that's a made up brand.
Anyone have any good reference pics of it? I'm sure it's gotta be just a store bought hammer that was maybe re-labeled.

Here's a pic from Google image. You can see the handle pretty clearly sorta not.

I can't screen cap season 4 but in "If I had a Hammer", 41:39. The handle looks like a Kobalt hammer. Blue and gray rubber with a blue dot on the bottom.


Maybe this? **Edited with right link** Think this is it? The 22 OZ does not have the blue dot on top.

That actually helps a ton. I was browsing google images for that kind of grip and finding nothing.

Definitely looks like the Kobalt could be the brand.

Good thing my construction background is good for something other then unemployment. Can't find any other pictures of the same model at other angles. Looks like I am off to Lowe's soon..... The specs on the Lowes website say, "Checker face design"!





Looking at 41:39 I am now a lot more confident this is it. The "house" shaped emblem on the bottom matches up. The Kobalt Hammer has "Kobalt" engraved in the spot where the "Grant" sticker is.

Doing a little more digging, I definitely agree it's a Kobalt. But I think it might be the 20 oz. or even the 22 oz rather than the 16 oz.

The main differences I'm seeing are the neck and the top of the grip. The neck on the film used prop seems thicker and dinged up, which suggests that it either was built up with some other material or is maybe a rubber cast or something. The neck on the real hammer is much slimmer and has a taper to it.

The other difference is that the circular design at the top of the grip is missing on the screen used prop, also could be due to it being a rubber or resin cast and the design sanded off.

Thirdly there's the issue of the label on the screen used prop. I thought I remember seeing a really good shot of it when

I don't think that is a good screen cap you posted to go by. That was probably a prop hammer, soft or made of foam or rubber for the Kill Shot.

If you look in episode "Dirty Harry" about 20:55 in, the store clerk is holding the hammer. The neck is thin and you can see Hexagonal indent on the top of the grip.

I really wish I could screen cap Season 4!!!

Great to know! I sent season 4 back to netflix which is why I was asking for screen caps. So based on what you can see, can you tell whether it could be the 20 or the 22 oz? I know I'm asking a lot. Just can't find any screen caps anywhere.

I'm going to say the 22 oz. Lithgow is a pretty big dude and the hammer looks long in his hands. Just a guess though.

I am making a trip to Lowes sometime this weekend!!!

LOL, I got the photos stored in my phone and I'm headed there right now. Lowes.com says they have them at my local store. I'll let you know what I find.

The Grant logo is seen pretty good when Masuka is putting it in the evidence bag. If someone can make a sticker run... :love

Okay, as I said earlier, once I got there and actually saw them, it's no doubt the 22 oz.
Here they are all three laid out.
from left to right: 22 oz,20 oz, and 16 oz.

Also interesting to note is that the circle design on the top of the grip is only on one side. So the pic of Lithgow holding it showing the right side with no circle design is accurate.

and here's a closeup of the Kobalt engraving and head stamp. I'll nee to take a closer look to see if they bothered removing the head stamp. The neck engraving is very light so it's difficult to see in these crappy pictures. Sorry about that.

And finally, detail of the head checkerboard pattern. Only the 22 oz. and the 20 oz. have this. the 16 oz is more of a finishing hammer and has a smooth head.

I am at Lowes now (on my iPhone). Definitely the 22 oz. Like you said, you could just tell from holding it. Definitely picking one up. Good research man!!!!!

found the episode online where Dexter first meets Trinity and is handed the hammer to work with. There's a couple of good shots throughout the episode (Trinity cleaning it, Dex handing it to LaGuerta, Dex using it to build his storage shed) Some shots show the Grant Model 514 sticker on both sides. Some only on one side. It seems to be right about the same size as the Sticker thats on the non engraved side of the actual hammer so maybe they just covered that up. My wife is catching up on season 3 now so I'll soon get season 4 again from Netflix and try to grab some good screen shots of the Grant label.
Hopefully I'll find something clear enough to draw a vector off of an have some made up.

In Season 4 Episode 8 "Road Kill" 14:56- there is a perfect shot of the Grant Logo.
Then at 15:01 you can see the whole hammer up close and clearly. Definitely the one.






Also, does anyone have any pics of the Glass Vial Trinity keeps the ash in? I'd love to get one of those too.
