Re: What's the rarest/hardest SW found item to...errr...find out there? Pics inside

I wasnt alive until 1986 so I couldnt say about them being 70's project boxes.:lol
I have often heard that assessment but I've never seen it proved one way or the other.

I would have to agree that the Hovi Mix Pa2 is a really odd one though. Its funny how we have the exact part ID of this thing and still cant find a real one...

Re: What's the rarest/hardest SW found item to...errr...find out there? Pics inside

Aren't they Radio Shack metal project boxes from the late 70s?

I agree they may be electronic project boxes but wasn't Vader made in the UK? The UK doesn't have Radio Shack.

So for anybody trying to hunt down originals the big 1970's UK electronic outlets were Maplin, Farnell and RS components. The problem with most of the project boxes nowadays is the screws go through the four corners on the lid.

Possibly the manufacturers of the boxes supplied worldwide but if anybody is to go on a hunt for these possibly using UK supplier names may help. Well I hope it helps anyway :)

Cheers Chris.

As far as I know, I have the only correct model of the Solo GK blaster scope. I had a second Compac Super, but it was not the right model (close though, but it had a different knob base and the front end had a bell shaped lens.)

And I always thought that the treadwell "eyes" looked like 35mm slide viewers. My dad had one in the 70's/80's but it was a tan plastic. Same basic design.

From the 1970's Tandy operated a chain of RadioShack-style stores in Britain ;) the good old days

Yep, Radio Shack was "Tandy" in the UK. Lots of the items even had Radio Shack printed on them.

ANyone remember the old TRS-80 computer? Did TRS stand for Tandy-Radio Shack?

Yes it did...but I never undestood the Tandy part til just now when I read your post! We had one when I was a kid. First folks on our block to have a computer, and I remember getting such an unbelievable kick out of those all-text adventure games!

You are standing in front of an old iron-bound wooden door.
OPEN DOOR.
There is a bathroom here.
GO BATHROOM.
Ah! That's much better.

That was so awesome. Thing ran off of cassette tapes if I'm not mistaken. :cool

It's possible I'm the only SW costumer who has an original Luke ANH rectangular pouch along with original triangular and Swiss pouches.

Actually I imagine most prop "pro's" back in the 70's would have used RS Components (or Radio Spares at the time) for stuff like that. :rolleyes

I remember the day I posted on the R2 Builders Board what these pieces actually were, (it's the only significant SW found-object discovery I can claim so far).

Nobody knew where they came from although I think most realised they had to be overhead reading lights of some sort. I spent a good couple of years looking for them along with every other R2 builder, but the irony is that in the end it only took about four days from getting one golden lead, to holding in my hands the last 12 'Viscount 700 series' lights left over from the original batch that had gone to Elstree. Real R2D2 leftovers!

I never imagined the guy who orginally supplied them would even remember what they were let alone still have any left, after all these years. That was an amazing day, and he was an amazing guy to talk to. He supplied the Falcon navigation seats too I think, as well a lot of junk for the ANH Falcon exterior.

It really proved to me that is IS possible to track this kind of stuff down, and that usually it's only a matter of time before that happens (particularly with the help of the internet).

I scored three Holoemitters for R2 once, for $30 a pop when the part was IDed and a source sold the remaining stash to the R2 group... the Viscount lights. Sold them to fund a non-prop expense back in 2001, and took really nice pics, which to this day are still being used to describe the parts, lol. Should have watermarked it, eh?

http://r2.robotbuilders.net/parts.htm

The parts sold for near $400 a pop. It was an embarrasingly gross profit - but I started the auctions for a dollar... it was simply a case of deep pocketed R2 builders HAVING to have them, I guess.

I don't think anyone has ID'd the type of ice cream maker that the dude runs with down the hallway in Bespin. That has to be the part that has boggled the most Star Wars fans for the past 27 years.

GO ICE CREAM MAKER GUY!! RUN!!!

When a friend was being evaced last week because of the fire in Ramona, I told her to make sure she grabs the Ice Cream Maker as she went out the door.

She's a big SW fan so she got it and it broke her tension.

Great replies so far guys:thumbsup

Nice collection of parts!

What's inside this thing? Any other potential SW parts?

Hey Chris, not sure if there are any other potential SW parts I can always
snap a few pics for you if you want... let me know.

HDPE - I'd love to see what's inside and on the other sides of that thing also.

To beat my own drum for a second or two, I discovered the Eumig was the base for Luke's ANH Macros (the rush from that was amazing!) then verified the correct AS handwheel for Obi's ANH saber some time later.

I'm still looking for the base camera for Luke's stunt Macros...

My pride and joy?
My Derwent interconnect.

Re: What's the rarest/hardest SW found item to...errr...find out there? Pics inside

Just out of curiosity, about how many genuine Derwent interconnects are owned in the prop collecting community?
