Defiance

I was too busy and when I realize it, I've missed three episodes already. So when I finally have some time I went through them and what a show! I guess a show must be willing to kill off characters people like, in order to keep the show fresh? Anyway I was really shocked by that quote.

It really depends on the characters you are refering to.

I really liked the scene in this last episode where Datak pulls his charged blade out at Rafe and Rafe just opens his coat to show Datak the butt of his pistol and says, "Please". That was pretty funny although Datak was more than close enough that if he really wanted to gut Rafe he could have been on him before he would have been able to draw his pistol but still a great line with a great delivery.

I liked that too. A clever nod to MiB. :D

I am liking the show a lot more as the episodes go on. Too bad the season finale is in two weeks. I hope SyFy doesn't pull a Stargate Universe or Terra Nova and cancel it before it has a fighting chance to take off. Ohh...maybe they will air more wrestling! HELL YEAH! *vomit*

I think they've already given it Season 2.

That's what SyFy did with SGU but the secret they said it was already quietly cancelled going into Season 2. Not enough viewers. For all we know Defiance could be a contractual 2 season show.

The question is, is the season finale that's coming up really a season finale or is it really the mid-season finale? Remember, SyFy loves to bill the mid-season finale as the actual season finale, they've done it on a number of shows before in the past which tends to confuse the hell out of the viewers who aren't used to SyFy's weird way of doing things.

I HATE mid-season finales, and this probably is one. A usual run is 20'ish episodes. We are at 12. SyFy is so stupid for always doing that to their 'hit' series. They doom themselves because people lose interest if a show goes off the air for a few months. And they wonder why the latter half of the season has a sharp drop in viewers. I don't watch SyFy for anything else and I always fast forward through the commercials (DVR). I would have no clue when it would return if I didn't look for it or have my DVR set to record new episodes. Fools...

I have no real problems with SyFy's mid-season finales, it means that overall there's less time in between seasons. What it does do for me though is that it tends to confuse me a bit on what season it is that I'm watching, am I watching the second half of a season or am I watching a brand new season.

Point taken about the time between seasons. I agree with you there, but I worry about the loss of viewers JUST when a show is starting to gain some interest. If it weren't for the last few episodes really picking up, Defiance was going to be cut from my DVR auto-record. It was just boring. Now that it has gotten a lot better, in my opinion, they decide to do this. I'd prefer to have a long run, 20+ episodes, get people REALLY hooked and salivating for more, then cliffhanger it with a nail biter. You know, like almost ALL the other shows out there.

You have a point, that's probably what killed SG:U, the slow pacing at the start of the season and continuing to the big break and by the time it comes back people have already lost interest because of the slow pace and the long break in between. The sad thing is that they did the same exact same on their last season, somehow not learning from the first season and their low ratings, I really think that a faster paced first half of the season would have helped make up for their drastic change in tone from SG-1 & Atlantis and kept the new fans as well hooking in the existing Stargate fans.

In a way I kind of like SyFy's split season format, it's not perfect but it certainly beats the usual network method of off and on airings of new episodes. Nothing kills a pacing like constant breaks between episodes; take FOX, they'll show a few episodes straight at the beginning of the season then take a week off and then we'll get maybe like 2 more episodes before another break of maybe 2 weeks, then a few more episodes, then a break, then an episode or two to coincide with sweeps then another break, and so on until we get maybe a month or two worth of episodes straight until the end of the season.

Wow, I can honestly say I did NOT see that ending coming.

Now I need to wait a whole YEAR for more Nolan and Irisa! :cry

Had this idea pop into my head, something I whipped up quickly. We knew Datak was going to betray Defiance, but the idea that popped into my head about how the people of the town came to realize Datak betrayed them (especially when the Earth-Republic took over).

I gave all of S1 a chance, but I'm not sure I'll be coming back for S2. The finale was a bit better than the rest of the season, but I still found myself skipping through parts out of boredom. I knew it was a bad sign when I was disappointed they brought Nolan back. :lol

Too much religious/fantasy type stuff, and not enough scifi for my liking. :unsure I'm glad SyFy seem to be showing some more dedication to the genre, I just think they've backed the wrong horse here.

I can't believe we have to wait 11 months for the next season.

Well, I guess it is better than breaking the season
up into 2 parts as most shows tend to do these days.

With the long of a break, I tend to forget what happened previously.

Good finale. Seems like the E-Rep went to a lot of effort to get control of the town for an organization as ruthless and heavy-handed as they appear to be.

I'm somewhat hoping next season to see some of the scary Nolan that we heard about in the previous episode.
