Death Star Turbolaser prop - any info out there?

Hey all just wondering if anyone knows anything about the turbolaser prop made for ANH. Not the model used for the studio scale stuff but the big unwieldy beast that the death star gunners are sitting on;

I could only find this image :confused

anyone build this prop? Or even know what they were originally?

ha ha! Hey wait I'm not saying I'M going to build it I'm just wondering if anyone had or if anyone knew much about the original prop

I did a quick search of the rpf didn't find anything....

ok truth be told if I did have one that worked I'd have a few less neighbours than I do at the moment

The original prop was mostly scrap parts from a Rolls Royce Derwent jet engine. There are a few of the flame tubes (IG-88 heads) under the front barrel and several larger parts like the impeller on the back end and the nozzle box on the side.

I've always LOVED this prop - I wish there were more pics. I found it interesting the there was a similar shot from Episode III during the opening battle.

Are those guys wearing the Darth Vader leather suits? I've seen the pic before but never noticed that.

Great thread. Not ready to put one together, but I've often thought a Turbo Laser would be a great addition to a parade mounted on the back of a semi-flatbed .. especially here in Atl for D*C.

Especially if it could be rigged with some good light and booming sound effects. I'm ready. :thumbsup
