Darth Vader Deluxe Helmet $55.00 @ Toys R Us!!

Is this considered a pretty accurate piece or a POS?

Well, it looks like Vader but I wouldn't go as far as to say accurate.;)

With that said, there are those that have extensively re-worked that helmet to a very convincing looking OT version of Vader. Either way, ya can't go wrong at that price!

It will need a little retooling to be close. Well, a lot of retooling. People have turned these things into awesome looking helmets, though.

I desperately want one of these (for re-working purposes!), but toys r us in the UK doesn't seem to have them, and everywhere else is really expensive at around £70.00/$130.00.....:angry:angry:angry

This is a great helmet for someone on a budget. I had an unaltered one (now altered) on display for years, and from a minimal distance looks great. The picture they show is NOT how it looks - for some reason they made it look symmetrical, which it is not...

You're basically seeing a Photoshopped image. The helmet in real life is asymmetrical whereas the image creator sought to make it more symmetrical to have the image conform to a ROTS theme (as the ROTS Vader is more symmetrical).

Some people have simply repainted the helmet with little or no physical modification, and from a distance it looks passable as Vader. By no means accurate but an okay starter helmet.

Here's what it looks like in real life.

Left: 6 feet distance. Right: 4 feet distance.

Here are some of my archive shots, all photographed 6 feet away to minimize perspective distortion.

Comparison with Don Post Deluxe:

Note: this helmet is also referred to as the Rubie's Supreme. The Rubie's "Supreme" costume is a full costume (MSRP $800) that includes the Rubie's Deluxe Darth Vader (plastic) helmet. Same helmet.

This is not to be confused with the Rubie's Fiberglass Limited Edition Darth Vader (fiberglass).

I need this like I need another hole in my head, but for $55 what the hell I bit. :lol

It might be fun to try and make more accurate.

I have one, and I think it's great for the money. Remount the eye lenses, repaint, adjust the dome... cheap Vader! :)

I've seen people go nuts on this thing and putty, grind, sand, really reshape it into something else. But I don't think you have to go that far unless you're really particular about Vader. And if you are, the Rubies will never satisfy you.

Smokin' deal! I picked one up. I used this helmet and shoulder armor to make a bust display for my Dad's home theater entrance a few years ago.

My Rubies Vader came last week and I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it as I have a Don Post deluxe and a Cking Vader for my eventual Vader mannequin. I placed it atop my center speaker over my TV next to my trooper helmets. Which is kinda cool as their height off the floor is almost perfect. This is where it will reside.

All in all for $55 I am very happy with the purchase. A little bit of work and alteration to this, dome mount fix, new lenses, grill, paint, it will look no less accurate then the POS SDS I have sitting to the left of it :lol Which is for sale if anyone is interested:unsure

This helmet is great for someone who is able to put in the little bit of time and effort it takes to make it an awesome helmet. Plus, it's light weight as compared to a heavy fiberglass one. Here's my vader (which total cost for the entire suit was only right around $800) I use a Rubies Supreme helmet that I did a bunch of tweaks to.

The Rubies is a fun helmet.

I picked one up about a year ago and started modding it to resemble an ANH.

Still have quite a bit to do till it's finished, but I've got the lid almost where I want it.

It's a lot of work, but if you don't mind doing it and have fun with it like I do then you could end up with a decent piece.

The mount mod makes a HUGE difference alone on these.

Here's a couple pics of my WIP...
