Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Is there any kind of estimation as to when the v2 files will be released yet?
im ready to begin my suit after completing my helmet but dont know whether it will be better to wait until the new one come out.#

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

On a side note, is there any real difference from using 175g/m^2 paper as to 200? What gives the best result?

Anything between 160-170 and 200+ is good. 200+ paper will less likely warp but depend on what paper weight your printer can handle. Between 175 and 200, you won't notice a tremendous difference though. That doesn't go from "bleh" to "awesome" with a simple paper change :)

Avoid coated paper (for increased smoothness or gloss in special "laser printing" paper) as the first layer will peel off as you score the folds.

As I'm a software engineer by trade I hope to create some wicked embedded systems (most likely an with an Arduino base).

I will may have some question later. I'll get my arduino and wave shield tomorrow and plan to control sound and 4 servos with the arduino so I may have questions about programming. But I'll experiment first :)

Thanks for your encouragements! Most important is patience and perseverence. I've seen much cleaner build than mine :)

You might try adding some foam sandal pieces inside the heel to fill and add some cushion. I did that with a MK4/6 build (based on Robo3687's files) and it worked out pretty well.

I'm interested to have a picture of that if you have one. :)

When it's done :)

Still no ETA.

I guess I'll try and get 200+, need to check with my printer though. Do you think it would be wise to get some test-folds going on the stuff there's here now? Just thinking it might not be worth starting out a V1 if 1) The V2 is way cooler and 2) May not be compatible with the V1 and 3) May be loads easier to craft.

I havn't been quite able to figure out how long it's been in dev, but I thought it was the V2 released at christmas, but that must a been the VII then.

Any questions regarding programming you can throw my way, should be able to help you. Else I have access to very qualified help, one of which is a leading scientists at my university with a self-walking robot, and he can make anything flap, move or glow as you may want :p

Most of the printers can print on paper up to 300 gr/m², so, I don't think that's gonna be a problem.

For V1 and V2, my advice would be to train yourself to build the smaller piece: shoulder bells, forearms. The gloves will probably stay the way they are now as it is a well known file (zabana's), you can already build these. The more you train, the better the files will be! :)

The helmet was a christmas gift from Darkside, he works on the V2 for more than a year now. The LD V2 files will be easier to build a still have a nice look. There will be a HD V2 files for people who want additionnal details (separate flaps,...) so they can motorize what they want.

Great! Thank you!

Oh I almost forgot. Is it possible to do all this with a normal A4 sheet printer, or do I need to be able to print some pieces (like the chest) in A3 or something like that?

A4 it's ok for the V2 files. In the V1 files you can change it to the size you want, A3, A4 or whatever

New question (So many!)..

I've located paper which is 190g / m^2 - but after reading through your post again DevilFlash, you said 160-170 is good and 200+ is good, is there somethign particular fiendish about 180-190 or is it just me being very carefull :)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

I don't even know how many grams is the paper I use... I just know that it works :)

In fact, I said anything between 160 and 200+ is good :)

Under 160 gr/m², paper is not thick enough and will probably warp a lot. Beyond 250, paper is a bit thick, it can be a problem to fold or for fine details.

So yeah, 180-190 is good too :)

For the V1 files, I only had a few pieces overlapping on 2 pages and I'm 5'10'' (180cm) tall. So you can print on A4 without problem. And you can always attach the two parts of an overlapping piece.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Hmm, I would like something cooler than a switch and I was thinking voice control, but whatever I decide on I have to program for too so I don't wanna dig me into something that's gonna take so long I can't get this done in time for halloween. Another modification I plan to add that I know is gonna be serious time is forearm lasers. Something like in this video but MUCH less complicated and just pointer laser, no high powered laser.Functional Iron Man Laser Gauntlet (100% selfmade) - YouTube

I would be very careful about using lasers in your suits. Even a low powered laser pointer can cause permanent eye damage. That is why you are supposed to wear eye protection. I would be pissed off if I saw some kid in an Iron Man suit wavy a laser pointer around. ;) With the types of places we go to wear these suits it is just not a good idea. Tons of people walking around and no way to tell who is going to look right into your laser.

Hey darkside !
What did you plan to addto the suit ... i mean removeable jet pack etc.... ?

Yeah, that and other flaps, etc on the V2 HD files

hey darkside you promised us some teaser pic's of the abs/midsection... got a few spare minute's to upload some for us ? I can't wait to see how good they look :)

I have been so busy and haven't had a chance to finish them up yet. I will as soon as I can.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Good thinkin about the lasers. They will be controlled by buttons in the glove, but in the chaos downtown of halloween I will yank out the lasers and fall back on LEDs for the effects.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Hello everybody good evening!

I got a question here for anyone who's finished parts of this suit preferably in a scale arround 24...

My height is exactly 5'7''½ since scale 24 apparently suits people of 5'8'' and 5'9'' , and 23.5 from 5'6'' to 5'7'', i'd just like to know from someone's experience which might suit me better

I'd just rather have to put straps for ajustmentor cloth filling than having to remake a new one cuz it's too tight in the end with braces/electronics and such

Thanks!!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Hay DevilFlash, I've been meaning to ask you...I've been watching your build which is coming along outstanding, your always a part in front of me, so it's nice to see what I'm working on, what it will look like...

Well I've been wanting to ask, what do you use to "glue" your card stock?...I don't see any hot glue strings or anything coming out, I'm thinking you might be using super glue, I was gonna use supper glue in the begining, but looking at tutorials and such, it would be cleaner, but if you mess up then you can't really pull it apart like you can with hot glue, all you have to do is heat it and fix it...I've been using hot glue...

Another thing I wan'ted to thank you for the red and blue idea, for the valleys and mountain folds, I started printing them out like that, makes it a lot easier to tell which is what....sometimes it was hard to tell... but love the pics and post...

Love everything that your doing Darkside, can't wait for the repulsors...i just ordered a arduino...fun fun....one project after another, more like all going on at once...haha...

Well I've been wanting to ask, what do you use to "glue" your card stock?...

Basically, white/PVA/Wood glue brushed on the tabs. See picture.

Really easy to apply, you can choose the quantity of glue you want to use, you wash your brush with water,...really simple.

I tried hot glue for my first piece...didn't go well. Too messy. I was a bit afraid with super glue to dry too quickly. PVA glue is the one for me and the way I build my armor.

Another thing I wan'ted to thank you for the red and blue idea, for the valleys and mountain folds, I started printing them out like that, makes it a lot easier to tell which is what....sometimes it was hard to tell... but love the pics and post...

Well, you're welcome, I don't think I deserve the credit for that though. :lol And yeah, when you print small pieces with lots of fold lines and numbers, it's hard to find wich kind of fold it is. So I hide the edge ID and zoom on the piece in Pep Designer.

Hay DevilFlash, I've been meaning to ask you...I've been watching your build which is coming along outstanding, your always a part in front of me, so it's nice to see what I'm working on, what it will look like...

I try to illustrate my progress as much as I can. I'm a complete noob in armor building as it is my first ever pep. I take my time. I saw there wasn't lots of tutorials in french for armor building and this is why I illustrate my progress. Already made 3 tutorials videos in french to help... try to give back what I received here :). The amount of informations is so huge, it's sometimes frightening :D
