Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!
First off, sorry guys... I haven't been getting any notices that you all have been posting in this thread. I guess this error is related to the site going down for the upgrade. I should have known better though. This thread doesn't go too long without a post.

So I am gonna get to your questions now... sorry if it is too late.
cheers for the reply again im a bit confused though sorry lol can you clarify would it be better to resin it in one piece like your original file and then cut it or you would build it in the 3 pieces and then put it together and resin it, I would have to cut it if I covered it with resin in one whole piece to enable me to get my hand into it wouldn't I? sorry for the dumb questions
Ok, If you use Zabana's original files then the hand is separated into three parts. If you use my unfold then it is all one part. When I built Zabana's files I glued all three parts together before I hardened them. This is the only way to make sure that they will line up together. Cover the outside of the hand in resin and let it harden. Then you can cut it apart to put the fiberglass on the inside. Or my new technique would leave the knuckles attached to the palm and then the back of the hand would come off to allow your hand to fit in. The little bridges between the fingers get real weak if you cut them.
Hey darkside ! I finnaly finished my v2 helmet 3d model and i was wondering .. how did you do to make the little creases being just black lines ?
In 3DS Max you can assign a polygon profile to each polygon and then assign a material to that profile. I used white on the rest of the helmet and black on the panel lines.
hi there darkside gud day to you sir.requesting for a .98 v2 mark 7 helmet foam template letter format. thankz
Sorry about the delay. I will get this up today. Check back in an hour or so.
Hey darkside, in the kotobukiya statue, the knee cap seems to be one part with the Shin, not thigh, which one do you think is the accurate one? thanks....
If you watch the movie again and look at the reference images of the CGI model you can see that the knee is supposed to be floating. My guess is they had to make some of the same assumptions I had to make on that statue since it was released before the film. The knee should be floating. That is why it is a separate piece from the thigh but included in the thigh file.
We finally finished the hand from your pep file darkside. I say we but a very big part of it was done by my wife.
If i had to rate the difficulty for this i would give helmet a 7 out of 10, 11 to the hand.
This is the only part that we couldnt figure out

So we left it out since it is not visible
I have a few questions, what are the purpose of the gapped areas that are not glued together?
And an other question is how do you harden this thing ? Do you cut it in two ?
Do you fiber it ?
How do you fit it in your hand ? The size is correct but there is no way it will slip through my hand so the question again is, do you somehow cut it open?
Thanks
Yes the hand is a very difficult part to pep but the detail is amazing. The gapped areas you are refering to are supposed to be glued. You should use the tabbless method to glue these areas for a smoother surface. For your question on hardening and fitting your hand in, refer to my answer above to billymaya.
i used guitar string but only used one on the top part.
finished costume... never got to wear it to boston comic con after the whole terrorist man hunt, which post poned the con. if i have another two months for the reschedule, i'm going to build the entire mk7 out of eva foam. bondo and sanding killed me...
anyways final product of what i wanted...
also, darkside, i apologize about getting those photos of the mk7 iron man. having a 2 year old at home and tryin to finish the arm i barely had much time to just do it. i'll get it done this week.
and yes i know. i'm wearing the wrong chest arc reactor.
That is a very nice job. The gauntlet looks good and arc is looking good too. Thanks for sharing.
Is gorgeous! Darkside congratulations! Thanks to your v1 files I started building the suit. The models are very well done and I'd like to show you the results of the work. If you are interested we can feel through MP, or I can create a new topic. However, if it pleases you, I would like to put yourself among the people to thank for cosplay that I am creating. Again congratulations for the excellent work! :thumbsup
Thanks, I'm glad you like them. Feel free to post some pics up of your progress in my thread.
Hi Darkside, is there a single file with all parts assembled together?
I tried to import a file into another, but the position between the parts is way off..... or is there a way to move the 3d models?
thanks
If I may, the files are not oriented in Pepakura on purpose. This is to prevent people from easily assembling the complete suit and potentially exporting and using the 3d files without first getting permission from Darkside. It's a shame, but unavoidable given the number of people who would abuse the generosity of people like Mike.
Well, this may not be a bad idea but to answer figuresmaniac, there is not a single file for all the parts. You can not import them together as I created and released each part separately on the V1 files. This is why, it was not intentional, just a side effect.
I have a few question. I'm at the resin stage with large pieces (chest and back):
- how to avoid wrapping for large pieces? For example, the "shoulder" piece of the back is really flexible even with supports. Do I have to add something to strengthen the part in the red circle?
- if wrapping happens, how can I correct it? Heat the resin with heat gun then try to adjust the piece? When can I do that? First layer of resin, second? Doesn't matter til I didn't put the fiberglass?
- the cod piece doesn't have supports. Do I have to make my own or the piece won't wrap too much?
Thanks for any answers you can give me, I really appreciate!
Yeah, I will be trying to help avoid any warping issues a little more on the V2 files. You can glue strips of wood to help keep these areas as straight as possible while hardening. Then use the heat gun to adjust as much as possible. Then after fiberglass... lots of Bondo to make them perfectly flat.
Cod shouldn't really need supports due to its shape and edges. Just don't completely soak it. Coat the outside, let it cure, then coat the inside, let it cure, then fiberglass.
