Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

ProjectEarth's helmet was scaled at .94 and is for a maximum of 23 inch head circumference. Maybe you could base it on that. So .95 or .96 is a good estimate. I'm pretty sure .96 would fit you well, but I'm not sure if it will look good (it might look a little big) .95 could be too small but if it fits, then I'd say it would be a better choice than the .96.

I will try the tester helmet at. 95 and. 96 and see with one is better. Will that be my default scale for every type of helmet i ever built in the future?
Thanks.

Thanks a lot for this. How easy it made everything :)

End result after gluing every part together.

Yes, good job on the helmet. Very well done.

Well, no. The scale in pepakura viewer depends on the scale to which a model was made in the first place. I can take the same model and blow it up or shrink it down in my 3D program then make another pep file and then the scale that fits you in pep designer will change.

However, if anyone matches the scale of my helmets or Sharkmark's helmets in the 3D program then yes you should be able to use the same scale give or take a little depending on the helmet.

Just been mocking a couple of testers up, at 1.04 as I have a huge suede! (24.25in)
it seems flush to the sides of my head, with space to the chin and rear but not too much, will see how it fares.......better that the 1.1 I originally made hahaha

Oh BTW... I keep forgetting to post it here but I am making some arc reactors with interchangeable lens styles. Click link through sig to check them out. titled 'Simple Arc Reactors with Interchangeable Style Lenses'.

Let me know what you guys think.

my progress

my bondoing and sanding wasnt all that great, but the idea of making it battle damaged will happen to help take the attention to crappy sanding and painting.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

It looks pretty good. The general costuming rule is that if it looks convincing from 3-5 ft then it gets the job done. Very nice, I know how much work it takes to see a project like this through to the end so don't sell yourself short.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Great work mate.
I have started with one arm resined and ready for filler and sanding :/
My main question (after 2 hours of trying to find it through search) is the fingers.
Fishing line/piano wire/guitar string I have, just where to locate it for articulation is best? Top, sides or bottom? One string or two per finger?
Will hopefully have pics next week (joy of night shifts)

I did two strings per finger... down the sides... it is glued in. I originally had it running through brass tubes which really looked awesomely mechanical but it chewed through the fishing line.. maybe a steel line would have better luck.

Stick the finger parts together and bend them to see where they pivot. It should be right about the point that the bottom curved part meets the top angled part half way up the side.

Thanks Dark, hopefully the fingers have scaled ok, Will soon see.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Hey guys firstly thanks darkside for your awesome files and all your hard work and being kind enough to let us have them for free :D

So the last couple of days I've been working hard on pepping the gauntlets (prob the hardest place to start but I figured I would get them out the way first lol)

So my question ive just got the palm and the upper palm section done also have the fingers just need to piece together the knuckles ( some of the very thin pieces are a night mare to get in the right place :S) im not sure if I have it 100% right but I figured once I resin and bondo the piece I can correct any tiny mistakes, anyways so the question is before I resin the hands do I need to glue all of the pieces together ie the palm and the upper palm and the knuckles I thought if I didn't then the two pieces might not match up properly after ive resined them :S

thanks in advance and my names Paul im from the UK :)

Hello Darkside! and everybody from RPF as well

I'm brand new arround all of this here, i just heard about all this peparuka, cosplay, and forum things last week when a friend of mine got me into preparing cosplay for next years PAX east...

First i wanna tell everybody working on this project how amazed i am about what I've seen so far, such quality and epic looks!

I'm still trying to figure everything out about all of this, I read your initial post here and it says you uploaded the files for many sizes. Unless i misunderstood a part of it ( I'm french i might gotten lost into more technical writting ).

So anyways here's the thing: I'm 5'8'' , but build on a potato-chip display rack frame, what's the best way to make sure that a suit is tall enough, but not too wide?

Thanks in advance

P.S.: you're doing an awesome job pleasing alot of people!

Darkside, this is INCREDIBLE!!!!
I'm so pumped for the V2 files!

Yes and no. It will probably only work for helmets that have the same scale, like Sharkmark's Mark VI helmet for example. But some other helmets are scaled differently. But at least you get a grasp of how wide the helmet should be so you can just match that to your next helmet even if its scaled differently.

I glued all mine together... it is the only way to maintain the shape so that they all fit together. Not sure why he had them on separate files... I did another unfold and combined all the parts on one file.

Thank you, welcome to the hobby. The Helmet has multiple sizes available... the V1 armor files will have to be scaled by you.

Best way to do it is find your default scale then double check all parts with the measurement tool. Compare measurements of the parts on the 3D model to your own body to make sure it will fit. Don't deviate too much from the default scale or the suit may look out of proportion.

Darkside, this is INCREDIBLE!!!!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Thanks for the reply mate :) so I've finished the whole hand today knuckles upper and lower part of palm and the fingers although I think it might be a bit to big so might have to do it again lol and take it down by 10%. Is there any way on the designer that I can change one measurement with out the other measurement changing? I have quite short fingers but don't want to lose the width of them whilst making them shorter. I'm not so fussed about having to do it again as its good practice :D I might try and do the original hand file where its built as one piece as looking at the one ive done with the 3 sections separate its going to be a right fiddly job attaching the knuckles to the front of the palm I figure if I do it as a whole piece I know its going to fit together with out problems then I can resin it and cut it afterwards :) and it should fit together perfectly right?

You can not distort the model in pep designer... it will always maintain proportions. you have to use 3D software to do that.

I would not cut them apart after you resin it. I finished it as one piece. It would get pretty complicated if it were in so many pieces.

cheers for the reply again im a bit confused though sorry lol can you clarify would it be better to resin it in one piece like your original file and then cut it or you would build it in the 3 pieces and then put it together and resin it, I would have to cut it if I covered it with resin in one whole piece to enable me to get my hand into it wouldn't I? sorry for the dumb questions
