Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Can't figure it out either. If I use my usual scale (24.5), the distance between chest and cod must be 260mm. That's 2/3 of my chest. And if I use the correct distance between chest and cod, I can't fit in. The width of the abs is 230mm. I know I have some pounds to lose...but not that much ^^

Darkside wrote on page 15 that you only have to care about circumference. The abs height goes up and down as the abs are 'flexible' and go under the chest. I haven't built the abs yet but I guess you only have to use the same scale. I hope that'll contract enough even without bending my chest.

@Jacob: If you have the 3.1.0a, you have the measurement tool in 2D Menu -> Edit Mode -> Measure distance between two points. Or by right clicking on a piece in 2D window -> Measure distance between two points

I guess I'm just going to try the 0.97 and let you guys know how it goes. It'll probably take me a day or two to build it, so I'll post here when I'm done. Hopefully it'll fit me and I won't have to make it larger.

On the other hand, here's me with the 0.95 ( mk6)
Had to cut off a lot of parts in the back in order to fit my head in it.

You are supposed to cut off the back of the helmet in order to get your head in. If the helmet slips right on then it is way to big. Check out some build threads for helmets and see how people have been building them. One good one to look at is ProjectEarth's helmet.

Alright, good. That tool is going to help out so much. Save money and time.

Oh, hey, one more thing guys... I wanted to let you know I am making some really good progress on my IM repulsor kits and I am almost done with my motorized/servo sound kits as well. I will be finishing them up in the next week or so and I will be taking a video of everything to show you all. I am not allowed to post links in this thread but you can fine the repulsors in my signature and for the servo kits just do a search in the JunkYard. I am running out of room in my signature... I will have to think of some other way of showing off my stuff.

I didn't even know you were making those, very very awesome. I will definitely be getting me some of both when you finish them. Thanks for letting us know here because I don't know if I would have ever known.

Wow totally did not know that. Thanks!!!
Even my friend was like how the hell are you gonna fit your head in there...

I checked it out and read all 28 pages, now I have a clear understanding.
Looks like I need to stick with the 0.95 after all. Too bad I already threw it in the trash :facepalm:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm
Sorry I made you change the scale and upload it!

if you are interested in the version 1 password, write a PM to Darkside, and he'll tell it, but if you want the version 2 pw, it is impossible to get.

Hmmm so I guess I'll need to scale down my helmet from 1.00 to 0.97.

I can slip my head in the tester but can't do it in the real helmet. The 1.00 helmet will serve as training for building, bonding and detailing then.

OK,what is the meaning of PM?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Ok I'm all fairly new to this so by all means correct me if I'm wrong but... Why aren't people giving Darkside the mm measurement of the helmet size they want rather than trying to guess the correct scale? I'm 6' but have a bigger than average head, some people might have a small head and still be six foot tall. Surely height has nothing to do with how big your head is?...

I already asked the 1.00 A4 version. It must still be available. It's in landscape though.

I imagine that would be a lot more work for Dark. The size in mm is a lot more precise thus restrictive where the scale can fit for different size. That's the reason why Dark do the helmet only by increment of 0.01.

Cool, glad you like what you see so far. I will be making a full video demonstration this weekend if all the plans work out. So I should have more information available not too long after that.

It is no problem, somebody will be able to use it I am sure.

PM is personal message. This means you go to my profile page and click on the contact tab and then click the link that says send me a personal message. Or you can click on my name to the side of this post and a little drop down menu will appear, then click the lick for sending me a personal message.

It is not up to me to determine what scale fits you... that is pretty much an impossible task since I don't have your head on a platter. :D Anyways, That is what the tester helmet is for... you figure out what scale fits you best and pick the closest helmet scale that has been uploaded. If there is not a helmet scale close to what you need then let me know what scale you want and then I will make it. Also, the bounding box measurements are not accurate.
You are right about the height statement... I don't think that a persons height is a good basis for the size of their head. Also, different people have different shaped heads so even if you take the head circumference that is not enough to determine what scale will fit you best.

There is already a 1.0 pepakura helmet on A4... I will not convert it to portrait. What is the point? Also, that is a LOT of work.

You should use Adobe Acrobat or similar programs. You can easily rotate the pages..

But with Acrobat you can't rescale the parts and move them around. Anyways, I don't see any advantage to changing from landscape to portrait. These are just parts that are printed and cut out. What does it matter if it is printed in landscape or portrait? What's the point in changing that?

Yes, it's true, it gets past me.
