Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Darkside, can you please tell me how to scale the biceps? I've tried a lot of scales, but I can't get the accurate size. Which part should I measure?

The biceps is a problematic part. It is not proportioned correctly. Problems that have been mentioned are that if you scale it so that the height is good then it is too wide... also the front part of the biceps is too long and you can't bent your arm. Now one thing that gets overlooked is that I made the biceps symmetrical in case people wanted to cast it. But what you should do is cut a notch out on the inside of the biceps to allow it to go further up your arm. Take a look at Robo3687's biceps for an image of what I mean. So the biceps will have to be modified. The front may need to be cut a little shorter and you may have to take some vertical strips out to make it skinnier.

Wow, ok, I try to do this :)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

hey darkside :) any chance i could get the mk 7 helmet in 1.0 and in a4 please also could i get it in portrait instead of landscape ? much appreciated buddy

The reason there is no point in switching from portrait to landscape is because you can rotate the part on a pivot point which Darkside will no doubt make sure all parts fit onto each page before releasing the file. I guess this is why you're asking for this and hope this helps explain why Darkside doesn't need to do this for you. :)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Is there a measurement tool in the Pepakura viewer? I'm pretty sure there is in the designer (and of course we can't open it in the designer) but for some reason it doesn't seem to pop up in the viewer when I right-click on the 2D menu. I'm using viewer version 3.0.4. Is there an explanation for this?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Okay I kinda figured the answer to my previous question. But correct me if I'm wrong. We're supposed to be able to use the measurement tool on the Mark VI helmet files (which we can open using designer if we have the password) and use that as a reference for the Mark VII files, right?

But that just raises another question. Since we can't really scale or measure in pep viewer, when we get access to the v2 files, how do we figure out what scale we use? Though there is a guideline in the first page on scaling, not all parts are in the exact same scale as the other parts. Are the v1 files close enough in terms of dimensions to the v2 files so much so that we can use it as a base to know what scale we use on the v2 files?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Jason, for your first point, you're right. Use the Tester MK6 helmet, find the scale you need and use it for Darkside's file.

For your second point, I guess it will need some tweaks to do cuz there are some inacuracies in the V1 files (biceps, forearms, scale inconsistencies between different parts,...). But V1 files are already amazing so there won't be that much differences. Can you confirm that Darkside?

uTheJoker (or anyone else 'cause I'm building a pep armor): I'm interested in a bit more informations on what to change on the biceps. I've also some problem with the scale. If the width is good, it's too long and I can't bend my arm and if the length is good I can't slip my arm in. (btw, you did a really good job on how to modify the lower forearms!)

You could do this but it doesn't look as accurate. The Mk VII doesn't have those long arms on the hinge area. Most people won't notice though.

DevilFlash, thanks for the reply to his questions. Just to confirm:

For now, Pep Viewer doesn't have a measurement tool. You figured it out though. You have to use the tester file.

I will most likely make tester files for the other parts of the suit as well. These will have the basic shape and size of the real parts but without any details.

As for the biceps, I posted some info on it a page or two back. But it will require some creative thinking and problem solving skills to work around the issue.

That suit looks awesome! You have done a great job on it so far. The helmet does look a little big though. How much room do you have in there? It should fit snugly on your head.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

My progress so far (first pep ever, I begun mid november):

The helmet:

All the pieces:

Still unhappy with most of the pieces and I have a slow rate. Still making baby steps with scaling, folding and gluing but I don't lose hope to make a decent suit for halloween 2013. I'll have to re-do forearms and probably biceps and this version of the neckseal doesn't seem to fit so I'll try the MK6's one

(y)thumbsup good job man! especially for your first peps. If you are unhappy because of a small wrinkle, some unevenness, or something similar then you shouldn't be too concerned... all that stuff can be fixed in the finishing stages.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Thanks mate!

I'm more concerned about the pep building process. I have to improve my pep skills. For exemple, I have difficulties to adjust multi-part object like the faceplate and the helmet or the 3 parts of the biceps. That finally fits with more glue and duct tape but that means I have place for improvement in the pep building process (those damn small circular pieces like the articulations of the elbow on the biceps!). And I still have to find the scale for each parts.

At some point, I can only see the mistakes. I had the same problems when I painted warhammer miniatures despite I was good at it (DevilFlash Gallery).

Next step: the chest.

More pics of The helmet in particular? That looks really nice!
