with these updates im glad i have waited. Then again so is my procrastinatory nature.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **New V2 teaser pics pg.68**

@softblubber - There was a technique where someone took a screen grab and overlayed the armor over a pic of their forearm using a ruller next to the arm for scale. If you are good at photoshop or another similar program you can do this. Otherwise you will just have to estimate how big to make them. My suggestion would be to do the upper forearm first. Not only is it easier to pep but it is the part that fits over your arm. So make sure that part fits and then use the same scale on the lower forearm.

Okay, I'll try that, thanks!

Oh, one more thing: If I make the tester helmet in printer paper form, but I want to make it out of 4mm foam, should I add extra 4mm to the, say, height (if that's what I'm scaling it to)? Or maybe less?

Thanks!

If you made the tester helmet and it felt like a good tight fit then you would probably want to add about 8mm to the width. This would account for the extra 4mm on each side. Height and depth are not the best measurements to use on the helmet.

Ah, okay - thank you! And keep up your great work!

Hey Dark -
I have built 3 helmets - one was to small, one I didnt like how the detail line looked that goes all they way around- such a pain in the --- with the 4 folds on a skinny. The lastest one looks ok - I am a noob at this and can see my skills improving with each helmet but one question I have is how perfect does it have to be?
I have made upper(easy almost 100% perfect) and lower forearms that are not quite perfect but again not for sure. I did a foam chest piece as it has very little detail for the most part and felt it doesnt warrant 27 page pep- ouch. I do have a question on the side piece though I know in the pep the side stacks up - but in foam it stacks way to high.
I will post some of my pep pieces and let you guys tell me if I should remake would be the best bet as I have seen some AMAZING work!!
OK back on to what I wanted to orginally ask- Dark will the files but colored as to what should be shown and what be hidden (ie like on the forearms, tabs are white, shown is hue) makes things a tad easier to figure out ...
All in all though the files look great and the parts...well trying at times go together fairly well its become my new hobby
Thanks for the files and the new teasers look awesome - hopefully my skills will be able to do them justice.

How perfect does it half to be... that is not really a question for me. Everyone has there preference. It is mostly up to you. Is it acceptable for you like it is or would you rather rebuild it? If it is just slightly crooked or warped then you might be able to straighten it out with a heat gun.

Yeah the new V2 files will be easier to pep and will have fewer pages as well depending on which detail level you go with.

I had not previously considered adding a hue to the model as that would use more ink. If there is enough interest in me doing that then I can. So lets take a poll... everyone that has an opinion chime in let me know if you want the hue on the model to set it apart from the tabs or if you would rather save your ink.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **New V2 teaser pics pg.68**

Well, i wouldn't print big parts with hue ,but having the model colored the way it's supposed to be would be a great help to do things right when it comes to the painting stage!

Also you can alway turn off the hue before printing directly from pep viewer,so i think it would be a "bonus" to have the colored parts...

Besides in the suit there are only red yellow and some silver/steel areas,so i don't think painting the mesh with 3 solid colors would be time consuming,or am i wrong?

No it is not hard to do and I forgot you could turn the patterns off. The only thing to be concerned about is that you have to make sure that the Polygons for the painted areas are in the right shape... most of them would already have to be. But I was planning on marking all the panel lines using the pattern so that you could use that as a reference. If I do the colors then you would not be able to print just the reference lines. It is all or none. So the choices are white pattern with the panel lines as I originally indented, slightly grey pattern with the panel lines so that you can tell the tabs apart from the model, or colored pattern (red, gold, and silver) with the panel lines. As I said, with the last two options, in order to get the panel lines you would have to print the whole grey or colored pattern.

The new Iron Patriot helmet I made has the panel line marked in this fashion. Check it out for a better understanding of what I mean.

Thank you for the compliment. I use 3DS Max.

I'm surprised on how long you've been working on this. Coming soon?

Ah ok now i see it! :lol

So those are used to exactly mark the lines for the details too small to be pepped but that are to be done in the bondo/finishing stage right?

I hope i got it right this time ahahahha :lol

Patience, my young padawan. I didn't get a lot of time to work on it over the summer and fall but I am hoping that I can finally knock it out.

Yes, precisely. The lines will be there as a guide.

Nice

Does the Elbow Parts go on the Outside or Inside? I don't think it matters does it?

The elbow gets sandwiched between the biceps and the upper forearm. Looks like you have it right. The upper forearm goes on the far inside.

I also want to thank docholiday78 for being a big supporter of my work and for his contributions to this project. Your name has been added to the VIP list and you will get 2 months early access to the V2 files when they are ready.
