Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

These are going to be silly questions likely but I've spent literally all day looking through trying to find answers.

1) Helmet size - I measured across my forehead and came up with like 22. From what I read here, the size 95 would fit .. but it's too small around the ears. The tester helmet seems to be roughly that same size. So if it's tight - how many increments up should I go? I really don't want to waste the paper and ink and time to print and build and test several helmets until I find the right size.

2) When I first started I wanted to try something simple first to see if I could do it and a post had suggested the bicep. So I printed and put it together. And that's where I 'm confused. Scaling everything in general is a little weird but I can dig more into that. My bigger concern is that the opening around the bicep itself is too small - I can barely get my arm into it. But the cover piece that goes to the front of the bicep is quite long. Past the bend of my elbow. Am I really able to modify the files and make them wider but also shorter without screwing the dimensions or have I perhaps done something else wrong?

Calgary Comic Expo is in April and I would love to be able to show up to it in a Mark VII. Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

1. You should use the measurement tool as suggested. That will make your life a heck of a lot easier. Pull up the scale .95 measure from one side to the other... compare measurement to the helmet you built to see if it matches then decide how much more room you will need and adjust the scale until the measurement matches.

2. You should cut a notch on the inside of the biceps where your underarm goes... this will allow you to pull the biceps higher on your arm. This may cause an issue with the pivot point being too high so you may have to extend that down. I will try to remedy this issue on the V2 files. You cannot currently warp the original model... when you adjust one measurement then the others will also be adjusted to maintain the original proportions.

I guess that's where I'm confused with the measuring. I checked the numbers and the finished distance equals the distance in the program. I can't really measure the distance between my ears (no matter what my brothers say) so I'm not sure the best way to do it without redoing the helmet over and over. How much of a difference do the .5 increments make? Ie: I think I need 1/4-1/2 inch on each ear.

2) I'll see if leaving space around the arm will fix it. I'm not fully sure just how high up my arm its supposed to go. I'll just keep testing it out.

Thank you for the replay and for all the files. I have always wanted to do something this extreme but never thought it would be as easy as all of you are making it seem.

i have a suggestion here, for those who had complete the full suit perhaps can give your details about the scaling according to darkside's scale and your own details and a photo of full armor of you and put in the first post. it's much more easy for reference and saving times for digging 14x pages...

Hey Darkside! Ive been lurking here for a while watching peoples progress, and I thought id post a picture of my own! I understand your v2 files are coming out soon, but I was way too eager to make this

Its a great file, Thanks!

You may have to use the Join/Disjoin tool to separate the parts that are too big to fit on the page. Then move the parts around to fit on the pages. When you separate them it will add a tab on one side that will allow you to glue it back together when you print it out.

Thanks DarkSide.

I built a 1.00 scale helmet, which should have fitted. However, the sides came together at some point, so there's no way of getting it on my head. For my next attempt, I'm hoping to add a lot of internal braces prior to resin and rondo. Are the internal dimensions of a 1.00 scaled test helmet identical to the V2, so I could use that to determine brace sizes?

If not, is there any way to access the measurement tool with the V2 files in pep viewer?

Thanks

hey Shaun
the 1.00 scale should be more than enough... you need to remember to cut off the back section of the helmet in order to get your head in it. If you don't cut it off but instead make the helmet big enough to get your head in the hole at the bottom, you will get a bobble head effect

and as for the measurement tool, it's only in Designer not in Viewer that's why Darkside has made a test fit helmet and will do the same with the rest of the armor as well
and of cores he modeled it so that when you ask for the size that you found using the tester model in pep Designer, it will be the same size you get in pep Viewer

hope that helps

I did cut the back off - but ear to ear, it's measuring 150mm - it should have been 170mm (according to the test fit helmet).

I need 165mm of width not including my giant ears.

all I can say is, if you measure the tester helmet from side to side, you will need to measure it at the widest point and that should mach up with the width of the V2 helmet and if not then the alternative would be to build lots of different sizes. then film the destruction of the ones that don't fit :devil :lol

Yes the tester helmet should be pretty much the same as the real deal except the tester helmet already has the holes cut out for the ears and the regular helmet does not. Does your helmet look like it got squished? That is a pretty big difference in size.

hey Darkside
I have run it to the problem about the ears, a few times in this thread and thought it might help if you colored in the the holes on the main helmet like you did with the hand for the repolser kit... I know it's extra work to an already awesome helmet file but, it could potentially take care of a lot of questions about size differences and, does the real deal fit when it's "smaller" than the tester helmet of the same size

Yeah, if that was an easy fix then I would do it. It is easy to fix the 3D model but then I would have to redo the entire unfold in Pep Designer. I am not sure what you mean about if the real helmet fits when it is smaller than the tester of the same size???

It was just another way of saying that people can get confused when the tester helmet fits like a glove and the V2 helmet of the same size does not because they don't cut out the holes

but yeah up in my head it all sounded just dandy :D but I guess not :lol lol

Hi. I have a problem when trying to open helmet file(V2) the pepkura bugs up. Anyone had that problem?
Should I reinstall? Because all the other files work normally...
Thanks!

Are you opening the files with designer of viewer? In order to open the files you will need to open them with viewer.
