Dark Knight Outfit

Hey guys,

I learned of this forum while attending the Belgian FACTS con, dressed as Batman in a Deluxe Rubies with a Rubies mask (and my motorcycle gloves & boots):

I know, the Rubies Deluxe outfit sucks. But still, I was perplexed how much response I got from it and I ultimately lost count of the people that took pictures with me.

One of your members (Jeroen) introduced me to the RPF if I would ever want to get some tips or something on getting a more proper Batman suit. He was a really cool guy and I hope he reads this since I don't know his whole name or nick...

Anyway, I came back home with the idea of improving the costume. I looked at UD replicas, noting that they don't deliver to Europe, and also noting the high price tag. Then I started looking around, and I kinda-sorta impulse-bought a Rubies Grand Heritage Dark Knight, thinking to modify it a bit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Grand-Herit...ss-/361084032893?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:BE:3160

You're thinking: Rubies sucks, you've made a big mistake. Thing is, I'm a big guy. I measure 6.23 ft and I weigh about 290lbs. So I don't have the luxury of buying something off the shelf. Also, I don't have the funds to commision others to make a complete suit tailor-made. We're quickly talking about +$1000, and then it's not yet in Belgium.

The benefit of the Grand Heritage costume is that all pieces are quite large and only cover the front. This is easier to make it fit my large frame. I think the cowl will look a bit off, though, and the one I have is really too small to wear comfortably. Anybody know whether I can get a nice matching cowl that would fit over a large head (about 24.5" circumference)?

It's worth noting that I'm not the most handy type. I can manage putting some stuff together and using a hot glue gun, but I'm really lousy at sculpting etc. Some people have artistic talent, I don't...

Anyway, I want to work with the stuff that I have and put it together as best as I can. Any and all advice or tips is greatly appreciated!

Also try Brotherhood of the Bat. Some guys over there have done just what you are trying to do. Good luck on the mods.

Please remember that the UD Replicas are made for motorcycle riding and as a result, are built for that purpose....while also providing an amazing suit for cosplay as well.

I'd love to have a UD Replica suit but I can't afford it right now. But they numerous sizing options they give helps almost anyone fit into one of their great offerings.

If you are searching eBay, buyer beware. You'll see a lot of recasts and knock offs, and you'll also see the Gotham City FX stuff in there. Avoid those.

There are countless threads where people purchase from a variety of sellers and either got nothing or, when they finally got something, the quality was extremely poor/ripped/damaged.

Good luck!

Thanks for your comments! I am currently emailing back and forth to a Dutch company who makes tailor-made motorcycle suits. They say they would be able to replicate the Batman Begins UD suit, so I'm probably gonna buy that.

Then I can use the cape & gauntlets that come with the Rubies perhaps...
