"Episodic movie" seems to be an apt description. The AV Club had a review of the first five episodes, and it wasn't that favorable, but I think that's because they were (a) only seeing the first five episodes, and (b) treating the thing as a television show where each episode stands alone, rather than as what I hope will turn out to be a "cinematic novel."

I'm only through six episodes, but this is just stellar stuff. It's a different beast than the other comic shows out there so I'm hesitant to compare too much, but holy crap the bar got raised. I gotta say I'm liking the black costume more than I initially expected, and really appreciate that they didn't go the easy cliché route with Fisk.
Granted the show doesn't seem to require a lot of expensive sets, costuming, and effects, but the production values are so good it feels less "cheap" than the network shows that surely have higher budgets.

I'll be watching this weekend. One thing that initially bothered me about the costume reveal is the face mask. It has some strange proportions. I photoshopped my ideal fixes:

Yeah, every time Claire's told him he needs armor I can't help but think "no kidding."
7 episodes in. Being a fan of DD, this series definitely hits the spot. Perfect Marvel style, serious but with moments of levity to keep it from getting too dark. This show doesn't pull any punches, it is really worth it to be on NetFlix over network t.v.
It makes me wish DC would make another attempt at a live action Batman series in a similar style.

Finished first episode. I love this show. It's not one of those annoyingly explosive pilots and it's very well paced. It doesn't clobber the viewer with action beats in an attempt to retain attention span, but unfolds gracefully and organically. The acting is superb. The role is handled with a lot more subtlety and grace than the Afleck version. The atmosphere is so evocative of the comics.
This show is a win. And it does so with its own distinct aesthetic.
I will probably savor the first episode a couple more times before watching the next episode.

Just watched episode four!!!! Good grief!!!! Marvels gone all Lock ,Stock and Two Smoking Barrels on us!!!! This is grim and bloody stuff no doubt about it and absolutely addictive. I swore I'd only watch a couple a day but this is really impressively written and I've got to know what comes next! My respect for Marvel has gone up more than a few notches. The choices they made in allowing the direction and cast go the way it has with "Daredevil" have just got to be applauded, ALL the characters seem to have a great range and depth beyond anything I was expecting and its almost as if David Fincher AND Chris Nolan got to together to direct this . If anyone ever considered reviving "Batman" as a TV series then they've got a devil of a job to beat this. DC must be weeping into their franchises!!! Brilliant stuff but please don't let the kids watch it.

Just finished watching the whole series, all I can say is, wow, my god, it was epic, and so organic in it's flow, nothing seemed forced or just there for the sake of being there, each and every character has incredible depth to them. I loved the two sides of the same coin analogy with Daredevil and Fisk. It doesn't shy on the grittiness at all, I mean this show is dark, oh boy is this show dark, but you still believe the characters can exist in the more PG-13 world of Marvel. I would love to see Daredevil make an appearance in an upcoming Marvel movie, Civil War comes to mind, or heck Spider-Man would be awesome too. Maybe a cameo in Agents Of Shield?
Bottom line, I loved this series, and can't wait for season 2 and the Defenders. Go watch it, like right now, go do it, you won't regret it one bit :thumbsup

After watching 13 hours of good entertainment like Daredevil, I now want to see more of the other Marvel comic characters get similar series treatment, allowing for richer story arcs and more fleshed out characters. It would definitely work for Spider-Man and his vast number of supporting characters, who will end up with only brief appearances in the movies.
Daredevil series is bloody and violent, perhaps little more than I expected and I am glad they went with that approach. And in the midst of all the grittiness, the show still manages to instill some humor from time to time. Besides the reference to Iron Man and Thor I was glad to see my favourite Avenger being given a shout out as well. The opening credits is cool and elegant, also liked the soundtrack including the different tracks played during the ending credits of each episode.
Jack Murdock had a short early appearance, but still managed to make a strong impact, almost making me want to see more scenes of him and Young Matt. Considering how much of pivotal role the character Karen plays later in the comics, it was good to see her being prominent through this series. But I kept wanting to see more scenes of Claire, also I liked her chemistry with Matt. Foggy is a delight to watch, especially when he is bouncing words with Matt. Since they are only a start up law firm, we got only one instance of Matt being a lawyer in the courtroom, I want to see some more of that.
The series has so many great action moments but the hallway fight in the end of episode 2 was fantastic and is one of my favourites. The way they shot and edited that scene made it seems quite seamless. By the time episode 6 rolls out, the levels of escalation in the story almost feels like a season finale. There is plenty of action after that, but the series comparatively slows down allowing for more drama and character conflicts. The action and pacing does pick up eventually.
Fisk is a villain who like many villains doesn't believe that he is actually a villain. He continues to justify his actions for building a better tomorrow. Maybe he will really embrace his true nature when he takes on the mantle of Kingpin.
As for the costume, the black version really worked well and was able to even highlight Matt's strong muscles and upper body without any additional padding, or at least it appeared that way. As for the red costume I wish they went with a darker shade of maroon instead of the black parts. But I think we will definitely see a better costume upgrade in season 2.

I just finished all 13 episodes, and all I can say is MORE ! That was quality TV, more like a 13 hours movie actually. Now if Marvel could up their game with the rest of their shows it would be nice, because frankly AoS looks bad next to this. So does Arrow actually, given both shows aim for a similar tone. Way to go Marvel !

I've only had time to see the first episode so far and it looks great. I'm now stuck trying to decide if I just binge watch the rest of it or wait to watch it with my wife.
I liked the old Creel vs Murdock fight bill in the gym during a training scene at the end of Ep1, nice subtle Easter Egg to pull MCU strands together.
I've thought Ghost Rider should be done this way for a while. It's a better format than a feature which can only give you one weak story, which will always be an origin story.

We managed to get through ten of the thirteen episodes last night before I was ready to pass out. I absolutely can't wait to dig into it and finish up the last three episodes. The writing is tight, the characters feel like real people, and the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous.
I was looking forward to the rest of Netflix's Marvel slate before, but now I'm practically salivating to see what they're going to do with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
