Hey Kids!
Here is yet another Diorama I have started. Using the old larger MPC X-wing kit I have started a "in the swamp" diorama. I need to add the "water" and make a photoshop background. So far I think it is look ing cool. What do you all think?

You know, I've had this idea for a diorama for about 20 years but never got past buying the ATM kit.

AWESOME to see someone actually make one. Looking good so far.

I had dreamed about using clear resin for the water, mixed with brown on the bottom, poured in layers lighter and lighter to almost clear on top to give it 'depth'.

If you have a scale train hobby shop in the neighborhood, there is a product they'll know about which can be used to simulate water. I forget the name, but there are a couple of different types. One for still water, the other for ripples or even waterfall simulation.

I'll see if I can find the name.

.. Found some..

Woodland Scenics Realistic Water
- Liquid that you pour & style.

Woodland Scenics EZ Water
- Plastic pellets you heat up.

Any landing you can walk away from (or swim away from) is a good landing.

Looks great - love the concept. But where are the Red 5 wink markings?

I have not added the markings yet. I wanted to find a good ref. for that scene. There is alot of painting and weathering to be done to the x-wing yet.

I bought the woodland scenic water you heat and pour, I have not been brave enough to use it yet. LOL

There's a how-to video I saw for the heat & pour. The modeler was building a diorama of a heavymetal chick exiting a bloody pool, with a big sword and HUGE eyes. After he was able to get pool "right", he then chiseled/scooped out ripples. The chisel marks frosted a bit, but he was then able to take a butane pencil torch to "wet" the worked areas. Oh yeah, he prepainted the surface red the poured the material over the top.

As always, test, test, test.

I always wondered about that... I mean, if we are flying together, and I can walk away, but YOU can't... does that still make it a good landing?
:rolleyes

And, by the way, the diorama looks great! Something that was on my neverending "to do someday" list... Beautiful, just beautiful.

Look at my X-wing thread Newbie collection (my first X-wing build). You could just use mine for it. It has all the correct chevron wing insignias, and is already weathered to look like Lukes' X-wing fighter in the dagobah swamp!:cool

Another idea for that truly swampy look: You can buy a fog machine, and attach a hose to the port where the fog exits, and run it to the bottom of the board in an inconspicous place(behind a log),and see what position works best to give it that steamy look to it! A little of this goes a long way! It'll add that dimension of realism that you can't just get anywhere! This looks much better than cotton batting, and can be turned off,and retain its' original look.

Here's some pics that I hope will help you out with this. Click on each of them once to open, then click on them again to see full sized.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but you CAN get a small fogger used for reptile tanks and such... the thing only takes up about 1 1/2 sq. inches, and it would add a nice layer of fog! Man, now I'm going to check out the pet store next time I go buy food for my snakes!
