Cyberman Voice Helmet Conversion

Ok, now that these have started showing up on US online stores like whona.com, i figured we should get one thread to show everyones progress so far for converting these and "upgrading" them to be show accurate. The main things needing to be done are filling the vent holes, figuring out the back piece, should the battery compartment be moved to the empty right ear so the back can be cut off entirely for a replacement vacuformed one? Also, what type of paintjob can be done to this to get the cold cast look, would a combination of paint, weathering and rub n buff do it? Lets get this rolling, cause I know there are a few here working on this I just want to get it all into one thread, as the others seem to easily get lost around here.

Well to start with, we need to identify the type of inside lock clips used, the push button comes out the side of each ear, and in this picture, you can see how the back comes apart.

In addition, the back does just go inside the back lip, needs to go back whatever the measurement is from the end of the front piece to the middle of the ear where the push button is. I believe Hanger18 here was planning on doing vacuforms once he got a helmet, correct?

Great idea to get everything in one place.

Correct on Hangar 18, he is interested in working up a vacform rear for the helmet/head. I've let him know about them now turning up in the US and he said he was going to look into it. I'm sure when he gets the chance he'll get back to us on it.

Since I've worked up the lighting on my Cybercontroller I want to work on accurising him too, which will involve working on the braincase and its clear shield in addition to everything else needed on the standard model I'll LYK how I get on.

i swear there were at least a few others who had already began working on these...

anyone got any ideas for filling the air vents at least?

CommanderCody was working on one but he seems to have gone quiet on it for the moment, however he made the folowing suggestion for filling in the "extra" air vents:-
<div class='quotetop'></div>
Yeh those vents... What I did was cut a sheet of very thin styrene and glued it behind the vents, I will then fill them in....with Bondo horray..[/b]
Sounds like a way to go.

yeah i rmemeber that, the only part of that that concerns me is when sanding the bondo smooth on the outside, scratching the plastic surface. However, wouldnt it perhaps be a good idea to light LIGHTLY sand the entire helmet before repainting with whatever proceedure to get a somewhat brushed steel look?

I agree, so if you were careful with the sanding after filling the vents as suggested then it wouldn't be different from just sanding the paint anyway I'd imagine, no?

i thought the mouth lit up on the voice changer ? or am i thinking of the show, ? if so does that mean the toy mouth piece is vents for breathing while the mask is worn ?

we're talking about the vents along the bottom of the neck and in the cheek, not the mouth, yes it lights up.

ah thanks for clearing that up was getting proper confused, im wondering if its possible to have light eyes for the cyber controller version

Hey guys on ebay under props there are castings of the helmet and the back plate up for auction just a heads up hope this help you guys.

i think those are fanmade helmets, probably different shape or size, probably wouldnt fit the back of these right, but nice still.

I just checked out the ad on whona.com. As soon as I get $80.00 to spare I'll be ordering one. As soon as I get it I can start fabricating the back.
Coolness.

sweet, cant wait.

Yeah the only thing that gets in the way of just removing the back as it is and cutting whrre it should be is the damn battery compartment...but i really thing that could be moved to the empty ear.

Hello its me, heres something else you guys should do, dremmel out the eyes as pictured, the CVC has ridges in the eye sections that make them appear smaller, this helps quite alot with the overall look

Also be VERY careful if your taking out the electronics, its a HELL of a job, the wire loom feeds through the head handlebars, take your time and you'll be fine, I didnt and had to re-solder the speaker onto mine :D

I have to say that when I was doing my Cybercontroller mod I left these ridges in deliberately as I used a black metallic mesh for the outside finish:-

and they provided an ideal "stop" for the mesh, this still gave it that real "eyes wide open" look though. I will be re-painting the head at some point and I intend to paint the ridges black so they will in effect diasppear behind the mesh, doing it this way certainly saves a lot of dremmeling.

Actually I found it very easy to remove the voice changer bits from my Controller and in fact I used the wires going through the handle bars to help connect up my Cybercontroller lighting system.

yeah i noticed those ridges in the eyes. howd you go about taking the wires out through the bars? Man ive noticed this thing has so many parts, just the face is made of a bunch of pieces all really close to each other.

As I said I didn't bother to remove them I just snipped them with enough length left to rejoin them if necessary.
Yes the face is made up of several well fitting parts, but if you remove everything in the right order it comes apart pretty easily (well it did for me and I had extra bits on mine).

any updates from anyone on making back pieces for these for us poor people who cant afford Millenium FX ones? :p
